Using _private

I want to use the _private folder to put some private stuff (what else). However, when I use my cpanel name/password, it doesn't accept it. I tried using "Password Protect Directories" and made a new user for that folder, but when I try to access it I get an Internal Server Error.

So does anyone know how to use _private?

Just make a different folder at protect it with a .htaccess file

Or you just make a different folder and use cpanel to create a .htaccess file
