Watch ads to get security code! Hmmm, maybe its time to move on.

You know, I was right on the verge of converting to a paid account and came to ask about the nameservers so I could transfer one of my domains over to here, but needing to watch a commercial to get a security code just to submit a post (which is already a hassle) has given me second thoughts!

It's ashamed, because I was really impressed with what I had been experiencing here.

Oh well...

x10Hosting is a business, and since we don't force Free Hosting users to display ads on their website, we need to recuperate the costs of operating the Free Hosting servers via other means, such as showing ads on the forums and in the CAPTCHAs. For the record, you will only need to fill in a CAPTCHA to post until you have either 5 or 10 posts (don't remember which, but it is one of the two) as an anti-spam measure for new accounts.

You'll find those same types of CAPTCHAs in many other places as well; if you get your undies in a bundle because a business is trying to make money, then you'll be in for a lot more disappointments in your future.

Get my undies in a bundle? :-\ ...My undies are just fine.

Upon first experiencing it, I simply found the idea of needing to watch an ad to get a required CAPTCHA somewhat tacky.

I did not come here to get free web hosting, I am looking for a paid web host, and just happened on to this site. I consider this a superior way to test out a host before buying. It is a great way to impress perspective customers, and the more convenient the experience, the better the impression.

In the larger view of things, even if the ads continued, overall, there are very few bothersome ads in the user experience here, and there is no other advertising in the forums that I have seen.

Unlike my current host who flood the login area as well as the cpanel with advertising and "special" offers, there is not much of that to be found here.

But of course the bottom line is performance; as I already mentioned, the cpanel experience here is superior. Softaculous is much better than my experience with the highly touted Simple Scripts or Fantastico which I have used.

But what is most impressive is the blazing speed. I am getting much better performance for free here than what I am paying for with another host (But I am running 9 WordPress sites there, so that needs to be taken into consideration). Also, on my first day (yesterday), there were several hours that I could not get anything to load, cpanel or webpages; so time will tell.

I have not found ANY other web host that I am considering that require captchas to post posts in forums; but if I don't experience any more downtime here, they don't come close to offering the performance and overall quality of user experience that I have found here.

I consider this issue resolved.

Glad to hear you are having a good experience. Our Premium servers are even faster, since there are far less users on them. You can also see a comparison of our various plans here.

As for nameservers, since I noticed that was part of your original question, they are:
ns1.x10hosting.com, and
ns2.x10hosting.com

For Free Hosting, you'll need to point your domain at those nameservers BEFORE you can add it as an addon/parked domain as a security measure to prevent users from attempting domain hijacking. If your registrar requires that the nameserver has a zone file for your domain before it will allow you to set the nameservers (some do), contact us and we can set that up for you.
