for reference: CMS = Content Managing Software

I use Wordpress , because I didn't want to write a page just for my blog. I just upload the folder of the theme, chmod the needed files and goto the themes page of the admin control panel and click which theme I want.

Wordpress on my blog

EDIT: yes I know that the new ad sticks out onto the page in Firefox (and pushes the content down in IE), I'm just waiting for a vertical version of the banner to be released.

PHP-Nuke

I used to use PHP-Nuke its OK but I wasen't that good to keep. What is the best CMS? And what is the lowest disk space CMS you can get?

Thanks,
Steven Ross

Drupal is quite good too, theres no install system though but the modules are great, I like that my site is linked to 100's of other sites too.

Mambo is great too, a bit on te big side though its the best for displaing the x10 ads.

Going back to word press, I know I've read this somewhere but how did hey go from v1.2.2 to v1.5 ?

Thought id chime in and mention mkportal.I guess you cant really call it a CMS but it is very good for just a messageboard portal. It works with multiple forums as well so you get to pick and choose.Go to mkportal.it and read more about it

So far I've used Mambo, it's nice but it lacks user control. I also used XOOPS but for me it's a bit.. "missing". WebGUI seems nice but it's hard to install.

{edit} Drupal looks nice too.

I generally don't like CMS because of the long urls ie. www.yoursite.com/modules?=downloads+catid=190283980283209?Topicblah it goes on and on and on.. I prefer to use a very simple cms modify it so its much nicer to look at pages like index.php?page=downloads
or index.php?downloads

That's why some CMS has this thing called "SEF" which utilizes the Apache's mod_rewrite thingy...
i.e. look at drupal's site www.drupal.org
and Xaneon for Mambo: http://dev.xaneon.com/mambo/extensions/
and WebGUI's site: www.plainblack.com

and note their URLs:"http://drupal.org/project/releases", "http://www.plainblack.com/webgui" and "http://dev.xaneon.com/mambo/extensions/faq/"

I'm not sure if you were talking to me or not but yeah, once I get this whole hosting thing sorted out, I'll see if I can find one at the main site.

Cool, thanks for the link, I'm there now. Back to the original topic. I thought e107 was good but I couldn't find any good skins for it or anything so that pretty much put an end to that.
