I think Wordpress is the best. It is very flexible and has tons of plugins available.

Wordpress is indeed the best. If you just want it plan and use your own template I suggest you use cutenews.

Ok this is the way I went... (I am also giving our sites in bracket for you to check)

- I started with Blogger thus get going without bothering about hosting with set setup and everything out of box with decent features. (http://blog.competitionexam.com/)

- Then I moved to Wordpress that provide so many option with nearly all features of even CMS (http://ipo.investorsouk.com/ )

- When my blog grew and my desire for functionality increased then I moved to Drupal (http://www.travelextracts.com/)

My absolute favorite is WordPress. I tried Nucleus and couldn't figure it out, I tried Serendipity and couldn't figure it out either. I used Greymatter for a while, but most hosts don't allow it anymore, and Movable Type never did work for me no matter what I did. I use WordPress here with basic php, and I've never had any problems.

Wordpress in my opinioin, but if you want a blog/CMS all combined, I'd have to say Nucleus.

My vote for Wordpress, its the easiest to use and also has hundreds of templates and plugins available.

I built a CMS out of word press. Its not at all difficult. Massively easy to completely make your own theme. I love it. Has all the right features out of the box and not too many either.

I have to agree with that. It really isn't hard to create a CMS out of a blogging software.

Personally if you have basic HTML knowedge I think mkportal's blog system rocks. There are quite a few plugins and skins out there for it too and it's very customizable for users.
