I'm thinking of trying Ubuntu soon, since I've never tried ubuntus before, but I'm still loyal to Windows Vista Ultimate

Mac OS X all the way. So much easier to use than Windows, and has more programs than Linux.

I grew up around DOS / Windows ... so I really don't have much experience outside of MS software.
I am planning to tinker with Unix or something along that baseline after I move and can dig out my other computer to set up.

I use Windows Vista Home Premium with ubuntu and ReactOS running in vmware.

If windows programs could run on linux better I'd use Linux all the time.
If you don't know what ReactOS is, it's a copy of windows built on linux and wine.

Ubuntu is african for 'I can't configure debian' :p

Compiz-Beryl UI additions kick windows Vista's butt in the graphics division though. I use linux for work based stuff and Windows for gaming.

o.o Can someone please tell the pros of having Linux? I want to install it, since everyone seems to love it, but I'm afraid that I might be stuck with an OS I hate. Please describe it and help me out? =)

I like Ubuntu and Fedora core.. but I also use windows xp to play games.
I hate all products from Apple including MacOSX because they force you to buy their hardware to use their software..

My OS's also revolve around MS, however, I once saw a download for a trimmed down XP version that was very much like 98 but without the bugs and all the excess material. I am beginning to find that OS's of MS when upgraded to higher versions are not taking up larger disk space, yet the general functionalities are the same. Hopefully, someone can maybe tweak Windows Vista so that only the bare components are left with, aka. only the things that are necessary for it to run, removing all the excess junk.

Heheh all are talking about how rubbish XP is but question is not about system but user who uses XP. By taking care of your computer XP works fine and there's no reason to bark it ;)

I've only ever owned XP, 95, and Vista. I'd love to load another OS, but I'm a gamer.

As cool as Windows Vista is, it takes more power than some hard-core video games... And is doesn't run the ones that exist now very well.

Of the two, I'd say that XP is my favorite. Or at least until I buy a computer with enough power to run Vista at its full potential.

I used to love popping in the Linux Live CD's (Knoppix, for example) at school, but nowadays, I just stick with Windows XP.. never going to Vista, I'll tell you that much. :p

=( You don't have to BUY a computer that runs Vista well. Unless you have an obviously crappy computer, I think that you should be able to configure your computer and Vista to work perfectly. One thing you can do is increase the virtual memory on all your hard drives to 3 GBs. You can also have a flash drive plugged in at all times - you can use flash drives as virtual memory in Vista.

I have a 2 year old Compaq Presario. The BIOS is made specially for Compaq, so I can't even edit the BIOS to overclock or anything like that. I had 512 MBs of RAM, a regular graphics card, and an AMD Athlon 3800+ processor, yet I was running Vista Ultimate perfectly. I couldn't play the good games much, but that is because of the RAM. I now have 2 gigs of RAM and Vista is working at 100% functionality.
