I go with laptop for home use as that give me option to sit anywhere and use. Even I can keep my daughter happy by sitting in her toy room with my laptop and keep her happy while I am working.

Desktop every time, I've had 3 laptops and they were all rubbish, even compared to the DT I use at the moment.

A Home Brewed 2.8Ghz P4 with 256Mb Ram a 40GB (yes 40) HDD and 64Mb ATI Radeon Graphics Card. Its a workhorse but I like it (I've got a cool case LOL)

I use a Desktop, it carries out all my needs. There will be limited possibilities with a Laptop.

If it's a straight up, zero-sum decision, then i have to go with a laptop as i'm a big proponent of being able to take work with you. However, i am fortunate enough to usually have access to both and find the desktop my most reliable tool. they break down (physically) less, are generally much cheaper, and easier to upgrade

I would say Laptop BUT, with a desktop you know you can always change it. My computer is about 3 years old but this year I have added a 400GB harddrive, 2GB of RAM, and am about to get a New case (new stuff making it heat up). With a laptop, the technology would have changed so much that you could not fit anything new into it.

Desktop:
Easier to upgrade
Don't have to worry about a battery
Much more powerful (most of the time)
Harder to break (relative to the person I guess)
