There are so many that one may wonder which is one to use. Someone may say that try all but if you do that then you will keep doing only that.

I tried to get a list:

.Text
BLOG:CMS
Blojsom
Blosxom
Expression Engine
MovableType
Nucleus
Pivot
SPIP
Serendipity
TextPattern
WordPress
b2Evolution
bBlog
pMachine Pro

Apart for this CMS like Joomla provide extensions to be used for blogging.

So what do you say which one is best?

Wordpress certainly is the best as far as i'm concerned for blogging cms. It provides an easy to use interface for both authors/admins as well as people that just subscribe to the blog. It also uses a database to store all the data rather than files... so everything is much more dynamic that some blogging software that creates a new .html page each time that you post a blog entry.

I use joomla. It's much more powerfull and you can use it for blogging too. You got nice extensions like RPG's, Wikis, etc. and it's easy to use once you have a basic setup.

I like wordpress, its clean, neat, fast, reliable and professional. There are numerous themes available and you change the look of your blog as and when you like. It has got a tiny mce editor that provide fast editing, besides that, it performs spellcheck, previews before publish, inserting photos, files, videos and what not. For those who are concerned of privacy, Wordpress provide features that allow you to choose your blog's audiences, you can even set password for extremely sensitive posts. Wordpress also have an elaborated statistics system that tracks number of vistors to your blog, where they’re coming from, which posts are most popular and etc. Most importantly, it has an automatic spam protection system to block spammers leaving your comments clean and tidy. Wordpress makes it very easy for those who like to switch Blog softwares, and provide imports and exports options from a variety of other blog softwares such as LJ, Blogger etc. Most importantly, there is big and helpful community out there to help. Its just wonderful.
