Greetings fellow x10Hosting webmasters,
My name is Robert, I'm from New Zealand. I am a fan of the browser-based MMOG called Travian, and have come to x10Hosting to set up a clan website. My clan is not limited to a particular alliance though, nor even a particular Travian world. We are the Statesmen of Travian, a clan of experienced Travianeers who gather to get away from the n00bs, and to participate in the finer arts of gameplay, including strategic diplomacy, espionage, politics, harnessing of cyber-psychology traits (such as herd mentality), and a knowledge and application of the plethora of available aids, tools, and online utilities available to enhance gameplay. With these and other weapons we are able to influence the direction of the game, raising empires and razing villages, influencing the politics of alliances and meta’s, even to destroying whole alliances and convincing the members to delete their accounts without a single catapult firing a stone through the cyber-air.
We will have multiple instances of the Truppentool script running on our mySQL database here on x10Hosting, so that various Statesmen cells operating in various different game worlds can keep track of their troops. The initial installation (what I've been able to do between server outages) includes a v3.1 installation and a v4.0a1 BETA installation of Truppentool.
I am also installing a phpBB forum, using the latest phpBB v3.0.2 Olympus, which I will be installing myself instead of using x10's phpBB implementation. I have been a forum administrator previously, and in 2007 was a forum moderator for the popular teen web-doll site Meez. I am also a member of Don't Censor Me, a site that promotes fairness in the moderation of online forums. The Statesmen of Travian forums will abide by the moderation rules of Don't Censor Me.
{... goes to check if x10's FTP is working yet, comes back to add more to this post instead ...}
I have limited experience with HTML, VBScript, PHP, SQL, and other web technologies, mostly being self-taught. I am a geek from way back, I was a nerd at school, and was into computers back in the 70's, long before owning a computer was considered to be cool! I had a FIDOnet login, and used Archie, FTP, and Telnet all the time. I even ran a BBS back in those days, with a FIDOnet node, the amazing ANSI graphics door game "Trade Wars" amongst others, and a blindingly fast 1200 baud modem! Even before those days, I was logging on to BBS'es using my old Atari 800XL.
These days, I'm no longer working in the computer industry. In 2004-2005 I had my own service company, doing OEM system building, troubleshooting, wireless and Ethernet networking, etc. Today I work in a multinational corporation that contracts to the government. I find that the security of a 9-to-5 job, combined with the added bonus of being able to leave the stresses of work behind at 5pm is far better than being self-employed.
So, that's me. Hopefully I can get something done on my website now. I'm in the middle of putting the x10Hosting adverts on my Truppentool pages, and was interrupted by the FTP outage when Stoli.x10's hard drive overflowed. Hope they have it fixed now. :rant2:
