Ref this thread:
http://x10hosting.com/forums/free-hosting/138437-free-website-stats-counter.html

None of these work in cPanel - if they show anything it is OLD data

My understanding is NO log files in folder "/logs" do to how
the x10hosting (x10) servers are being fed by other x10 servers

This is also why .htaccess "order deny, allow" will not work

So will "Piwik" or "Google Analytics" work on x10 server "boru" ????

I think they will see only the x10 server that feeds my x10 server "boru"

Piwik should, and I'd bet that Analytics would too:

"At the end of the five minute installation process you will be given a JavaScript tag. Simply copy and paste this tag on websites you wish to track (or use an existing plugin to do it automatically for you) and access your analytics reports in real time."

This isn't actually using the log files to track it, it's using a javascript tag instead. That's from the Piwik install though, so I'm not sure about analytics, but I thought they both used JS tags just so they didn't have to try and process the access logs.

Analytics works by placing a script in your code and then you can view visitors to your site, etc. Both of these services only track to actual web pages, and won't track to images, file downloads, etc.

The point I did make very good is WHY I asked about no log files

Do to the x10 "load-balancing web servers" the only IP's
x10 server "buro" see's via PHP is those of the "load-balancing web servers"

So my question is how would the 'javascript' get the visitors IP address ????

The JavaScript runs on the visitors machine, not on x10hosting's server. It sends a request to Google or whomever and that tells Google the address of the visitor.

Thanks descalzo

I had a task to replace "order deny, allow" in .htaccess with something
and was using that mindset - looking at the wrong end of the pipe
if I had stoped to think about it - I know JavaScript runs on the visitors machine

Google Analytics is on Google's site
and Piwik would-be on my site (PHP script)

If JavaScript is set off in visitor's browser they will not work
bad boys have it set off and most do not use a browser
