Hey everybody,
I just bought a domain name today and i was wondering if anyone else has tried "Windows Live Custom Domains" so you can have 2 GBs per email account here's what it tells me to do:
To complete setup, you need to make the DNS changes listed below. You can do this at the registrar where you registered your domain or at your DNS provider.
  • Step 1 (Required): Change or add an MX Record (Mail Exchange Record) for your domain to have the following values:
    • Host: cgz09.com
    • MX Server: 637163758.pamx1.hotmail.com
    • TTL: 3600 or 1 hour
    • Priority: 10 (or High priority)
  • Step 2 (Required): Delete all other MX Records that are not set to the value above.
  • Step 3 (Recommended): Add a SenderID which is a TXT Record (Text Record) for your domain with the following values:
    • Host: cgz09.com
    • Value: v=spf1 include:hotmail.com ~all
    • TTL: 3600 or 1 hour (if requested)
  • Step 4: Click the Update Now button to confirm your DNS records are correctly configured. Recent changes at your DNS provider may take up to 24 hours to take effect.
I have changed the MX Server for cgz09.com to that one but I dunno how to change the TLL and the Priority, is this necessary or do I just go to the next step?

edit- i can't figure out how to delete the other MX Records, has anyone successfully set up Windows Live Custom Domains with an x10hosting account before?

I have two domains. I should give one a test drive and do that ... keep us updated on how to do things. I've never had to update MX records or do any of that ...

You don't need to update the TLL (whatever it is) Just the MX Records. It works for me.

To delete MX Records, you need to go into cPanel, and go to Mail, then CLick MX Records. Then you shuold be able to delete them there, or atleast change them to something else.

I don't think you need an invite. Although, it says you can sign up - but then it says "This page is invalid" :eek4:

I can send you a gmail invite so you can sign up for an e-mail account, then sign in and apply for this beta test thing.

Yeah, I wonder if I even have a shot ... Why not just change the whole application and say "You have to be *THIS TALL" to use this attraction*

Hey Billy,

I signed up for that google domain thing, and went to check my gmail account, already have my invite. Just have to follow a link and fill out some basic information it seems.

So, maybe there isn't much requirement. If you signed up, check your gmail account.

Just make a good application. There are no invites yet. Apply, it'll take them up to a week to answer, but it's worth it.

How do I find out more 'bout WLCD's e-mail?? ... If I change my MX records and follow all that, how do I go about checking my e-mail? Or setting up accounts or anything like that??

I may set up one with Google's beta thing, and the other domain with that ...( WLCD ) to give a test run to both.

The navigation is on the left under each domain in WLCD.
To log into email accounts, you need to go to hotmail.com

Ahh. I found it. Had to go to the WLCD website itself. *lol* Thats what I was trying to figure out.

Okay ... So its telling me to do the MX records. I have a free hosting account - my domain is pointed here ... how do I change the MX record to point there??

I logged into my cpanel and clicked on the MX record thing and am just plain confused.

Or do I need to do it from my domain registrar?

Once you're in the MX records part of cPanel, you need to edit the MX record of your domain to what WLCD wants you to put. Then go to WLCD and update your domains information (the mxrecords page thingy)

i tried that, and it didn't change..it still stayed the same telling me to still follow those steps, there wasn't any sign of it recognizing that i changed the MX Record...i'm confused, what do i do next, i can't delete the MX Record for my subdomain (.x10hosting.com) and i'm not gonna delete my subdomain, i wanna keep it just in case something goes wrong with my domain
