Wordpress page link to url in folder in file manager? Can someone please help?

trying to put a link in a page on WP dashboard. need to place documents in a folder (new or existing ok) with file manager and need to find url to that doc to link to the page. I know how to put a link in, but need url to do it. have tried lots of combinations to my domain/database at: http://harttdesign.x10host.com/harttdesign1/

like "http://harttdesign.x10host.com/harttdesign1/documents/filename" but get error message and it can't find file

Can someone please help?

If you did what you said, it should work.
Try it again, and if you get an error, post a link to a page on your site that contains the link uploaded document.

Thanks Angus. I found an answer on separate thread to do like this:
<a href="/documents/2014-Stage 4 WCP declaration.pdf">2014-Stage 4 WCP declaration</a>
"/documents" tells server to find the linked doc in the folder called "documents" wherever that folder is on my domain
