Wordpress plugin requires to edit .htaccess but is unable to edit

A Wordpress plugin W3 Total Cache requires to edit .htaccess but is unable to edit. is it possible to change it? and if so then how?

Try:

cPanel --> File Manager

.htaccess should have permissions set to 0644

If they are not 0644, change them.

If it is set to 0644, try

1. renaming .htaccess to .htaccessBAK and then
2. copying .htaccessBAK to .htaccess

and then try installing the plugin.
