No way consoles should make you pay for online gaming. You already pay for your internet service so why should you have to pay to use it again?

Hmmm I remember watching the E3 presentation, and Microsoft said it's "BASIC" xbox live service would be free. I never doubted they would offer a premium service.

they talked about the premium service at E3 the only thing that gold service gives you taht silver doesn't is, gold enables Online Multi-Player, and you can watch other people play and ike enter competitions and things...the silver only allows you to do a profile thing, kinda like msn blogs in a way...and yes system's should not have live service that you have to pay for though it kinda makes sense cause the people who are producing this Online stuff have to get paid..and with Sony's online service, it's okay..not as good as xbox which is the reason why you pay for xbox's live service..but w/e "what can ya do, when ya live in a shoe"

Pretty sure you have to have a CC or Debitcard. Heck if you don't have one, then go to a local mall and buy a CreditCard giftcard(visa). Those work the same as a CC would.

Yep, Silver comes free, but it's pointless. In England, if you buy the pimped out package you get 30 days free Gold Xbox Live.

People with current Xbox Live can transfer their account easily and have Gold. Gold offers something like, demos, patches, downloadable content. Market place, Silver might have Marketplace not sure though.

I've got Xbox Live and it's definately worth getting, in my opinion gaming of the future is going to be much more about online play.

ah man xbl really should be free.. i mean, we pay 500 bucks for the stupid console, why not at least give us free internet service?

thats microsoft for ya..

but its still better than the ps3 will ever be gamewise.. but i have a gut feeling that halo 3 is going to be lousy.. ill just wait for the 360 to come out so xbox prices will go down and ill just get myself an xbox..

Why do you want to get an Xbox? When you can get the 360. I don't mind paying for Xbox Live I think it's worth it. If you want a free service you might aswell play PS2 Network Play. You get quality when you pay for it.

The prices for Xbox 360 games will be the same as new xbox games. the Live service will be roughly the same price as well with LOADS more features. Why are you complaining? the free level of LIVE will have special weekends when you'lll be able to play a certain games online for free. You also get things like spectator mode, IM and video messaging, XBL arcade fro nothing. Don't complain, it's more than you get on Xbox, it's improvement.

Also, with 360 you will be able to buy cards in-store with codes that credits you, say, 6 months of GOLD subsription. No credit cards involved. Just start up you 360 and enter the code into the correct place (somewhere in the dashboard) and voila! GOLD member. I think thats pretty cool.

Edit: duh me! I forgot. The prices clearly aren't to high for subsription online games. WOW has over 1 million subsribers and XBL has over 2 million. those are people PAYING for the sevice of online gaming.

See this is why I was never interested in Xbox's Live system (and indeed, this money grabbing also put me off the Xbox console) as I enjoy free PS2 and PC gaming.
Many of those features could just as easily be done for free (PS2 online gave you a free game as well, although no discount card.)

Heh did you not read my last post? And XBL is FAR superior to ps2 online.
