It's a bit older news item on BBC but still:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/6551429.stm

Personally I won't be updating to Vista to beyond the middle of next year unless something catastrophic happens (like FEAR2 being Vista only); I've finally got XP how I like it, and I'll be damned if I'm going to switch to something this pc barely makes the minimum specs for (it blows XP's specs outta the water and it still aint fast enough)

I'm saving my money up for a Falcon NW Mach V desktop or a TLX laptop with a Banana Republic messenger laptop case.

Forgot to mention; preloaded with Windows Vista Ultimate.

I heard about this. Dell had started pre-loading vista on their computers, but consumers didn't like it. So they put XP back on them. Then Microsoft said that by the end of the year (I believe) that ONLY Vista would be allowed on computers. XP would no longer br allowed.

That article means it will stop coming out on new pc's. You still have 5 years of support left from M$

Yeah sucks for people like me; I'm not gonna buy a new computer anytime soon.. XP is fine by me. If I wanted to waste processing power on fancy fx, I'd upgrade.

I'm sure support will go on in the form of un-certified upgrade packages like it did with Win 98 long after the 5 year support is up.

I also use my own theme with vista. Still runs smooth as ever. Though the xp still is faster o.o

its all money making tricks of Microsoft is what I think,
as people are accustomed to Windows XP and start loving it Microsoft is playing game and the most worst hit are the people of third world country which are slow to catch up west in all those latest systems and depends on their old system and Vista will hit them as they will sooner or later not get updates from Microsoft and as there system is not Vista compatible they have to stick with XP without any support, lets see someone come forward to continue the support later on also .

i like xp better, but my friend sais hes running vista on 512mb ram 1.6ghz amd single core and it runs faster than it ran xp and faster than his dual core runs vista but that might be because he reformatted it... i like the look of vista but i dont want to put it on my old computer.
will there still be xp updates on windows update?
