Haha I'll watch out next time I see you driving.

I currently have a paper license of some sort with the restriction that I drive with a relative that is 21 or older (I assume this is the restricted license you're talking about?).

However I have passed the mandatory 6-month period as of December, so I am able to go to the DPS and receive another license which allows me to drive by myself or with a passenger.

Do you know the DPS's opening hours? I ought to go sometime tomorrow

By the way, driving isn't all that great. Quite frankly it's an additional responsibility I'm too lazy to fulfill; it would be quite nice to be chauffeured around everywhere

Yeah, I got that paper license that you have to wait 6 months (or until you turn 16, whichever happens last) before you can get your full license. I guess you're right about driving, its like starting high school. "Hooray! I'm in High School now!! YAY!!" then one week later "BAH! HUMBUG!! I HATE SCHOOL!!!"

I don't know, but we kept having to go back home and get more forms cuz we forgot to have one and then we needed some social security card (only brought passport). Uggh it was a pain.

Congratulations. Here in NY State, they actually give you a real plastic card license even if you are on a Learners Permit (of course, it says "LEARNERS PERMIT" and the restrictions are printed on it).

I wish I can join you on your happiness, but..

I am old enough to get a driver's license and I even have a car that I can drive with too, but alas my family (and my own personal) financial situation prevents me. My dad's insurance rate nearly triples if I am to get my own license and we have no way of paying for it if that happens (we're struggling as is... my father became disabled and unable to work. So far, he can still drive for short stints, but I feel it's only a matter of time). For me, it's still a lot cheaper to just pay $76/month and take mass transit. And thank God, my college debt is next to nonexistent.

@azntechguy that sucks about your dad...and that you can't drive, I hope everything gets better eventually and I know that all will be OK in the end :)

I hope you aren't in North Texas. I have had my DL for maybe 2.5 years now or something

Hah yeah I'm not looking forward to insurance either when I get my driver's license.. maybe I'll sacrifice my high speed DSL..
