This is something that I've been wondering on what people's opinion is.
On Nov. 1, one of my local radio stations began playing Christmas music. Do you think Nov. 1 is to early? Yes or no and why?

It seems every year the stations compete to see who starts playing Christmas music earliest. Before you know it, it'll be on in June!

At least that thing about Merry Christmas being bad and only being able to say Happy Holidays isn't as bad anymore (at least not yet)

I think that it is far to early. Halloween just ended! And what about All saints day? The days of the dead? even better-THANKSGIVING!

I personally think that christmas season should not start until december.

Some places near where i live started putting up christmas decorations 2 weeks ago!

Its bloody silly if you ask me. Its still two months (a 1/6th of a year) away.

Its lost all meaning as an actually religious celebration, and is simply a huge commercial rush these days.

Like most things i suppose. Or being totally forgotten.

I mean, did anyone even stop to say Happy All Saints day to you 3 days ago? Nope. Most people didn't even realise it was!

So anyway, its too early still. You have my persmission to start preparing in December.

Yes, it is way to early right now. I think that they should start doing christmas/whatever you celebrate, a couple days after thanksgiving.

I think it's a bit too early also. There's still a long way until Christmas comes, plus there's other holidays to consider too.

You bet it's early! I went to an HEB the day after Halloween, and I saw them replacing the "Halloween Candy" ads with "Christmas Candy" ads; same candy but different season to be associated with!

The marketing people wanna sell you stuff, so any reason to celebrate or make you go out and buy stuff would be explioted to the max. So there is no date too early for them.

For me, 1 Nov is way off the mark. Playing "we wish you a merry christmas" 365 days a year would make the song lose it's nostalgic value. We need to keep some christmas spirit for christmas :)

I think its too early for some and not so early for others depending on once perception, too early for those who are lots of other things to perform before christmas and not to early for those have completed most of their work and are really in mood of celebrations,
thats what I feel , may be others not agree with me !

I agree with that. If individuals want to get ready this early, fine. However, I don't think companies need to get ready, or try to get us ready, for it yet. Let me celebrate holidays one at a time thanks. Day after Thanksgiving, or even better, December 1st is when the season should start.

yes it IS too early.
But for the commerce is NOT.
Since people always let things to the last minute, is quite good to shops to start on November. This way people will start remembering about Christmas and start buying things starting in Nov.

Its just a marketing strategy to improve profits not only in the last month of the year.

Damn right its too early for christmas (baa humbug) there is a reason advent calenders have 25 windows and not 55. I went to my local store yesterday and thought it had closed down cos of all the fake snow on the windows (looked like they had been whitewashed), by all means start selling SOME christmas stuff now but why push it on us? I have 2 kids so believe me there is no-way Im gonna forget about it or whatever they think will happen but as from now everytime I go into a shop its ' I want, I want, I want' over every bloody thing in there, even the decorations.

But hey look on the bright side, I just heard in my local store that they've scheduled to start in April next year LOL- I don't think. :hahano:

Christmas is being "promoted" earlier this year because of the expected decline in Christmas sales. Retailers expect sales to be much lower this year than last year. Last year's sales were down from previous years, but given the circumstances, retailers were pleased with the outcome. However, the circumstances are worse this year. I mean, we aren't in the Great Depression, but I don't think many people realize just how bad things have gotten...

It is definitely too early for Christmas. There is a house near me that has all of the big Christmas decorations up and a couple others that have trees up already. I say we take one holiday at a time. It's not even Thanksgiving yet! Immediately after Thanksgiving, it is no longer too early for Christmas.
