I don't use download.com. Most of it's stuff isn't freeware, most of it's crappy shareware that probably comes with some spyware and malware included. Another reason is that I use linux and basically everything on there is windows, linux has it's repositories so we don't have to worry about stuff like that.

Download.com guarantees you spyware-free downloads. As for the software being shareware, you can't expect them to give out full versions do you? And if you searched for sometime you will also find freeware. It is just an index to the softwares and it offers you trial versions. I think it's a great site if you want to try out some software.
