People are stupid...

Okay, now I know that's not the best title I could pick, but that's the best I could come up with.

I'm not talking about everyone, of course. I just want to share a few stories of general supidity.

So, in this thread, we tell the stories we have heard/read or even seen ourselves, about the stupidest things people do, and discuss them.

Okay, I'll start :

This is about a girl who had wrinkles in high school. Yeah, already. I don't know if she was wearing contacts or partying so hard that she ended up with bags under her eyes, but she had some wrinkles and she hated that. So, guess what she does? She goes and has surgery! Yeah, she got that kind of surgery at like 17 years old or so...

Well, that's already pretty stupid in my opinion, but oh well, she was happy about it, good for her. The really stupid part comes here: she goes back to her surgeon a while after that, complaining about her skin getting wrinkly again! The surgeon was like "well you just need to take better care of your skin" but she just wanted to get operated again (yeah, good job spending your parent's money wisely...) but he refused because apparently you can only have so many of those operations, especially at her age (or something, I'm no doctor).

So, when I heard about that I was like "well duh, a surgeon's not a magician!" I mean, it's not like they can fix something and then cast a spell on it so it doesn't happen again! All she had to do was use some lotion one in a while, eat right, not smoke, that kind of stuff, and she would have never even had to meet her surgeon at all... Plus, how much common sense does it take to compute that if she got wrinkles in the first place, they came from something. So, if she'd have surgery and not change her habits, it'd come back!

OK, I'll stop here, your turn, tell us the story of someone being really stupid. This one wasn't THAT good, I admit, but I might post something better if this thread gets popular.

Not very popular apparently...

Here's another one I just remembered of anyway :

There was a guy in high school (barely knew him) who was complaining that his computer was running very slow. He had heard somewhere that formatting his hard drive and re-installing Windows would get his computer to run as fast as in its first days (it was even more true then, since it was before XP even came out I think). So he asked one of my friends (who was then already a bigger geek than I am now) how to format. My friend gave him all the instructions and the guy was all happy and tried it the same evening.

He came back to my friend the day after complaining that... he couldn't find his programs and files anymore !! I was like "wow, you'd think he knew what formatting was since he was the one asking how to do it..." We had a good laugh about that at lunch break and I still chuckle about it now when I think about it.

That goes to show you that you should always know what something does before trying it on your computer... That's why I like Unix-like systems, because when they ask for your password, you know you can screw up big time if you don't know what you're doing. It's nice to get a warning...

Yeah, I have to agree about the level of stupidity that buzzes around us all. My sister asked me to teach her how to use the internet... Fair enough, but she would not follow a few simple bits of advice, like always keep your virus checker up to date, and don't click on things that look too good to be true, or the "systems analyzers" that pop up now and again.

So after two days of trying to rid the system of whatever it had caught, and trying to fix the thing that would not allow the virus scanners to run; I formatted and started afresh.

Now, I still ask myself, who was the most stupid... Her for not following some little bits of common sense; or me for letting her use my machine!

My friend once asked me "where can i download some more hardware?"

I thought it said no "one liners*

Anyways...

I think people in general are stupid. Look around you! Look at how people talk and what they do. I can some it all up in this > We are human beings.
That is all you have to say really. The farther we go through time, humans get more stoopider:drool:.I could elaborate, but I won't. :cool:I don't have time. I might edit and say more:hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano: :hahano::hahano:
^ Har har har it looks funny! Yaaay watch it!

Hilarious, one of my good buddies isnt the smartest person in the world but he does make us laugh.

He goes to the store to buy a stick of RAM becuase he was tired of running vista at 512mb of RAM.

I go see him at his apartment soon after to see how it went,
all i saw was him typin away with a stick of RAM shoved into his CD Drive with a huge hole in the side of his computer. I asked him what happened and he said it wouldn't fit into the side of his computer so he put it into the cd drive.

You had to be there, hilarious.

Wow, I have to admit the RAM story actually beats records.

Like VeggieBoy said, we are all human beings therefore we all have more or less stupid moments, and with different levels of stupidity. I myself beat some records a few times, but I don't have time to post that right now. It's 2:30am in my timezone, so another time.

Anyway, I'm reassured to see more responses now, I was kinda scared for a while that people would take the "People are stupid" thread wrong and just ignore it or think it's itself stupid. Thanks for the replies.

This is something that has happened before.... More than once! I was in my local technical emporium and whilst waiting to talk to the guy behind the counter, I overheard the customer who was talking to him... They asked "Can I have a disk for some more RAMS for my computer".

And how many people here have been asked this... "When installing some new software it keeps asking me to press ANY key to continue... Where is the ANY key?" (Thanks to my little sister for that one too!)

That's an old one, that any key thing. My friend who took A+ and failed the test (CompTIA cert) tried to build a custom PC, twice and failed. We still make fun of him for it. Oh and the time another friend got a BSOD, and turned off all of our computers at a lan party because he hit the switch for the entire surge protector.

What about the guy that got fired because he spoke his mind to a customer?
The customer called in because her computer didn't work. After trying to help her for a long time, it was discovered that the power was off in her office and that's why her computer wasn't working. He apparently told her to put the computer back in the box and send it back, because she was too stupid to have a computer.
I've also heard stories of people using the CD tray as a coffee cup holder, and people trying to figure out where to put their credit cards to pay for something online.
Yes, people can be stupid.
