Just to let you know just in case that you want to buy the "Eye of the north" expansion. It is the true expansion, nightfall & the others are just different campaigns. Eye of the north requires you to have at least one character to be lvl 10-20 to play. (it used to be just lvl 20 at first when it came out couple months ago, but they changed it because most ppl didn't know that you had to be lvl 20) Also you cannot access it right away. You have to get further into the game to access eye of the north. Hint Hint: Lion's Arch.

What am I missing by skipping straight to Nightfall? Just a different storyline? I noticed that players with older versions take a different path than me in the beginning of the game.

I don't have any prior experience with this genre of game, so I don't really know the history of the GW story.

You skip the storyline, since there IS a time difference so there is a lot of lore that you will not understand because you skipped Factions, especially the WHY of the villain from Factions (and the why of the villain(s) in Prophecies, if you're skipping that)

Everyone starts at a different part of the game depending on which campaign you start with. If you have multiple games, it will ask you which campaign you wish to start at.
Edit:
Yeah. I have 2 characters ( a warrior & a monk ) in post-searing. Would love the help ( beefin' up my characters the best as possible, ya know? )

I have money coming in April, may just purchase factions or one of the other add-ons to get new things ... ( If I can find it for less than 40. )

My IGN is Ninja Status, add me to your friends, I'll try to look for you too.
Not doing nothin' but titles (milking the rest of the game), but I look at my in game friends and refuse that much devotion to a game:p
