What is rep good for?

People had rep clubs to encourage each others egos, they are now banned because the idea of rep is so that people can see how dedicated to the community you are, and giving each other rep for no reason made rep pointless.

Ah... so silly :).
On another note, it looks like I've unleashed a monstrosity of a thread on this world. Only about half an hour and it's already to 3 pages!

Let me check...

EDIT:

So yeah, there really isn't anything to reps anymore, nothing like discounts that I can find... and no credits anymore. Apparently it was abused, which I can see easily lol.

yup. exactly. this is what i said, probably didn't see it when i edited.

Yeah, its fairly impressive.

There's another example of the usefulness of reputation as a measure of how dedicated someone is to the forums. I can make 3 million posts and not help anyone, but I won't get any rep, rep is the measure of what other people think your worth to the community is.

Yes but allowing other users to add to rep lets people abuse it too, so it could not be legit rep :)

But now it probably is, more, because it's worthless so there's no motivation to "steal" it. Strange thought.

Azntechguy, just curios, how did you get 7000 credits and have only 19 more posts than I do? I'm really trying to get credits here, but it's going very slowly.

Good question. Well, I used to be more active here in this forum back in the days (and I'm going to be disappearing for a while again).

Back then, I think the credits were calculated on a different basis... I'm not sure, but I think X10 used to have two different point systems, one for post count and one for completed offers. I've did a couple of the offers.

I think both were merged to become the current point system it is now.

There used to be a different point system, which you converted over to this new point system so... its like...

Old System, for a few months

Old System, New System (convert if your on)
for a few months

New System, whats here now

Those were the days (presumably)... now a point is worth about 1/10 of a cent, so I'm quite far off from my domain goal, but hey it's something for nothing.

EDIT:
Unless you do very professional website design for 500 credits or something, then you're getting 50 cents for your time, less than I made as a ChaCha guide!

I thought we just spent half the thread talking about how rep is no longer worth any credits.

Which members of this forum were banned because of the rep club? Also, how did you come to the conclusion that we had a rep club just to encourage our ego's?

I think he meant that rep clubs in general were banned, not the specific members who participated.
