I've tried over and over to install phpBB without success.

I tried manually, and then through Softalicious.

Both ways the results are the same: www.coco3tools.com/forums

I always try to work things out for myself rather than bother you guys, but this time I'm really stuck :(

Any help well be greatly appreciated :) Thanks

I did before I tried to install it maunally, but then deleted it all to try Softalicious when it didn't work.

Should I delete it all again, re-create the database with the admin user then try Softalicious again?

Just give a try again.Post back if you are getting any error.

I went into MySQL to create a user, and the database and forums user had been created by the Softalicious install. The forums user had all priveledges, so I created an admin user and I gave all priveledges to the admin user also.

Still the same error.

I should have added more detail about the manual install:

I created the forums database and admin user, gave full priveledges to the admin user, FTPed all files to a forums folder in the public html folder, set folder permissions per install docs, everything went fine until I clicked the button on the second last page. At the top of that page it basically says don't change anything if you don't know what you're doing so I didn't :)

After clciking the button, the page just waited and waited then finally I got a TCP error.

Then the same error you saw above. I tried this about 3 times and always ended the same.

I read through the forums to see what I might be doing wrong, and each post I read suggested what I was already doing. Then I read that you can install it through Softilicous, so I deleted everything, i.e. the database and the entire forums folder.

I entered the details in the install page in Softilicious, it seem to wait for about a minute then eventually said done.

Then the same error you saw in the first post.

I'm deleting it all to try again. Will let you know how it goes, but I'm not confident it will be any different. Fingers crossed though :)

http://www.coco3tools.com/error.png

This time I just left all options for Softilicious as default, clicked install and it eventually came back saying the phpbb folder already existed, but it didn't.

So I had a look in MySQL to see if it had created a database and it had with a phpbb user and an admin user. The admin user had no privileges so I added full privileges.

I tried the url: www.coco3tools.com/phpbb and got the error above.

I don't understand why I'm having such difficulty when other posts say it's easy lol

Update: I just tried the url again, now i get the error:

Language file ./language//common.php couldn't be opened. The fact that's its a different error makes me think maybe it's still being setup?

Well looking at the url in the error above, I noticed it doesn't point to the language/en/common.php file, but the // just points to the root folder of language.

So I figured, what the heck, I'll copy all the files from en to the language root folder and see what happens.

Well it works now :)

I'll post on the forums at phpbb.com and when I hear back about how to fix it properly, I'll post here for anyone having the same problem.

Or if someone here knows the answer, please let me know :)

Well I posted over there and the guys don't support cPanel installations which is fair enough.

I think it may have had something to do with the server upgrades going on because Sofilicious install works perfectly now. I've not tried the manual install process again, but I'm guessing the issues I had with that were for the same reason.

Anyway, all is well and the phpBB forums work great! :D

Also just wanted to say a huge thanks to the x10hosting guys for providing such a great free service.
