Hello guys,

I'm on free hosting and I'd like to have a shorter domain for my blog. Can you suggest a free domain service?

I'm thinking of using "http://uni.me/". What do you think of this service?
I tried to sign up but whenever I reach the registration form I get this alert from avast of possible malware.

Thanks!

I am somewhat hesitant to use dot tk because I've read a review that it is a scam.
I read it here: http://www.getfreedomain.name/domain/tk

Whttp://www.getfreedomain.name/domain/tkhat do you think of this?

I have no idea whether or not reports of domains that receive a lot of traffic getting parked ("stolen") are true. Domains I have with .tk never received much traffic. However, it is a free service so it technically wouldn't be a "scam" since you're not paying or even giving much personal information. Free domains still technically belong to the company (this is stated in the TOS).

In addition, .tk is the ccTLD for Tokelau and also not recognized as a global domain by Google (like .me and .tv are) and therefore do not have geo-targeting options. The same goes for other short domain services which often are .cc (Cocos (Keeling) Islands).

If you're serious about building a successful website, you should definitely consider a paid domain (preferably something like .com or the country code of your target audience). .com costs less than 1 USD monthly (~10 USD annually). You will then legally own these domains.

You can try .co.cc it's also good one, and it has full DNS capabilities.

Hope this help.

I hate .co.cc because of the long list you have to enter. Phone number, address, just makes me feel unsafe. But that's just my opinion, everyone seems to love that domain too

Good luck! :)

Glad you didn't use .co.cc since they're blacklisted from Google so you might of struggled to get traffic.
