I like tabbed browsing as well, it doesn't cause me more confusion than legacy style browsing. It's really quite useful as I often need to see several sites and refer between them.

I have used Avast, switched to Kaspersky as a PC Pro survey showed it detected a much higher % of viruses. It does conflict with Zone Alarm sometimes.
