to execute any PHP function it has to be *.php, to tell the server to start looking for the <?php tags and execute what's inside of them;otherwise it will just look at it as if it is a regular html file and not execute php

I would go with either make it a flash, but you would most likely end up with a a heavy flash file and still lose a bit of quality or embed it to use with quicktime and have it available for download for better quality (if you want them to be able to download it)
