yes you may buy a new domain and make your old domain redirect to the new one,with out losing any traffic. Also read 301 Redirect: 301 redirect is the most efficient and Search Engine Friendly method for webpage redirection. It's not that hard to implement and it should preserve your search...

It is just normal.Google wont cache your page everytime it index your pages.And frequency of caching depends up on your page rank and many other secret factors.So nothing really to panic.

The layout is fine.Try to make the top navigation a little more bigger,also add some flash button or some mouse over effect for your top navigation. Get rid of that of logo of Internet Explorer 7 and mozilla there,and make use of that space by making your layout a little more wider.

I would like to add one more thing.In step 4 if FTP connections fails, try to connect using the option "PASSIVE FTP".And also make sure that your Firewall allows FTP connections.
