That's probably because IE, being a part of Windows, is partly loaded on startup (using many of the same files as explorer.exe), though this poses the problem of stability and security. Switching from IE to Firefox takes longer than switching from Firefox to IE and back, thanks to the IE Tabs...

If someone could hack into Google, they would have done more than place an ad. If that wasn't placed by a pass-thru website, then its fake. Or else, the most someone could figure out was an XSS/injection vulnerability and chickened out testing it for fear of the Google.

I think Firefox is better overall. Microsoft has gotten much better with IE 7 & 8, but they still don't follow a lot of HTML standards (messing up page displays), they are so integrated into the OS that they can make the whole system unstable if something goes wrong, they don't autosave data...
