Which Linux would work best for me?

OK thanks - can you get Office 2007 to run under WINE, does anyone know? This I would need as I use it almost constantly, especially for a mobile laptop to check emails etc I couldnt live without Outlook now. Thanks Alex

What do you like about Linux?

The only point it beats it on is that its free, everything else Office 2007 does far better then Open Office in my opinion. Alex

What is the best Web CMS?

Joomla is the best IMO, just look at my site. As to something thats light, you can customise Joomla nearly down every option, so that could be integrated into a site, but it might take quite a lot of coding, depending what the current site is like. Alex

Which Linux would work best for me?

OK - well its better then my current laptop that barely gets me 1 1/2 hours with its Pentium 4... However decided to put that in there. Anyway, back on topic, I will give the Xandros a shot, then probably upgrade to Ubuntu a little later. Thanks for the input. Thanks Alex

Is your site using too much resources or is their server just too slow?

Just wanted to cover myself incase one day I find out that .xyz is blocked for security reasons. I will edit the post... Alex

Which Linux would work best for me?

Well Asus claim 8 hours, but we all know what manufacturer claims are like... I read an independant review which got 4.5 hours with max performance (eg. videos, wireless, bluetooth and screen brightness all on max) and 6 hours on basic use. Hopefully Linux would keep this up, although I read...

ISP's confirm '2012: The Year The Internet Ends'

And there is a problem with the plan anyway - whats the point in having google if you cant visit nearly all the sites it suggests? I know they own other sites like YouTube and things, but theyre indivigually listed. Alex

    What's your favorite browser?

IE7 although I have tried Firefox 3, and admit it is faster, but it lacks a few features Ive gotten used to in IE, like the open/run feature for installing exe files, which I do a lot. It just seems to make the whole process take longer without that one easy button. Alex

Which Linux would work best for me?

I mainly plan on using it out and about, for light tasks, like email, notes, MSN etc but Ill also want to do much more complicated things as time goes on. But it wont be used for anything like Image/video editing or games, nothing like that since it cant run it. It will mainly be basic...

Which Linux would work best for me?

OK thanks for all the suggestions. The specs are: Intel Atom 1.6Ghz 1GB RAM 20GB SSD Drive Graphics? (Not at all designed for gaming so probably pretty lousy) I'll give the live CDs a spin for Fedora and Ubuntu a try when I get it. I'll also have a look at the Xandros one, but I think I...

ISP's confirm '2012: The Year The Internet Ends'

I dont think EVERY ISP will restrict access, there will always be a few smaller ones who dont use this scheme, who will be the ones who succeed if all the rest start blocking sites. This is just making the big stronger, and stopping all the competition. Alex

Is your site using too much resources or is their server just too slow?

I thought Id found the perfect free host once, had PHP, MySQL, FTP, the lot, not Cpanel, but I could cope without that. But it wasnt until you signed up that you found they restrict just about all file types (including .htacess which was crucial). X10 does ban any file types, which makes then...

    Windows VS. Mac

Although the reason they dont lock up or crash as much as PCs is because programs/drivers havent been installed that make the system crash. If you had a fresh install of windows, and just installed the things you could on a Mac (Like Adobe programs, Office) and none of the stuff you couldnt...

    Windows XP vs Windows Vista

OK, I spose not liking how it is arranged is a personal opinion, I quite like the way its arranged, more then XP. I also must admit that I do gloss over the fact that its slow on some computers, as I have a very powerful computer, but I know it runs fine on my laptop that has a Core 2 Duo, 2GB...

Which Linux would work best for me?

Hi I am going to get one of those Eee PCs soon, and I am planning to install a different Linux distro over it. Ive had some experience with linux before (but dont know coding or commands etc.), and I just want it to work and have support for a lot of peripherals. Which one? Partically looking...

    Graphics cards! 9600, 8800, 6600 oh my!

Not all share the RAM, you can get some dedicated graphics cards for laptops (although they make the laptop considerable more expensive). Although I would also guess that the clock speeds are lower to keep the temps down to a managable level. Alex

    I hate the Internet!

lol it is a bit annoying, but in the end you just learn to live with it I spose. Id rather have the internet a bit buggy then not have it at all. Alex

    Windows XP vs Windows Vista

Thats not true, I migrated to the 64-bit Vista, and it supports everything I own, except a PS2 Eyetoy, which was never even meant for the computer. Also, nearly all the bugs have been ironned out, and mine hasnt crashed once yet, XP had a few crashes. As well as this, Vista recovers so much...

    ram, processor,or harddisk.

You could get a RAM and Hard drive upgrade for the price of a processor upgrade, so that really says it all. Unless the CPU is useless, get both the RAM and HDD upgrades, after all, both those would be better then a single CPU upgrade. Alex
