    Poll: Who is No:1(Google,Yahoo,Microsoft)

Hi abcisaac-- I don't know what country you live in, but in mine (USA) the fact that most of the business world is doing something is a good reason to avoid it inasmuch as those bozos have managed to destroy our economy but good. Having said that: my Dell laptop just died & I'm having to do my...

    Choice of Programming Language

I'm really old & have programmed in: Fortran, PL1, Pascal, C, C++, Java, Perl, PHP, plus some weird languages lost to history...if I were just starting out right now I'd probably start with PHP. It'll get you into what programming is all about and let you do lots of good stuff on the web.

    facebook apps

Has anybody here created a facebook app? Can they direct me to some good intro info? I think I'm mainly interested in their "iframe" model. Are you using x10hosting to serve your app? Thanks! Al Cramer

    New AI Site

Hi all -- I'd like suggestions/criticisms on my site http://indigo.x10hosting.com It's a demo of a new technology that lets people "chat" with texts. This is a little like chat-bots; the idea is to let people interact with texts in new and interesting ways. Thanks! Al Cramer (BTW-- the...

Microsoft sees end of Windows era

From what I can see, Midori is a tremendously exciting, radically new paradigm intended to radically change, in a tremendously exciting way, the way people implement software. This is kinda familiar: they tried it about 7 years ago with .NET, and around 15 years ago with COM. Both flopped: you...

    Constructive Criticism

I think the funky layout of text, icons, and graphics at the top of the site is REALLY cool. But you might want to think a little more about screen real estate. There's a big long empty strip of white running down the right. Plus the big font in the review makes the user have to scroll down more...

    Review: nightlife0230.co.nr

Have you considered alternatives to GREY as a dominant color? It's cool if you think of it as techno, but it also evokes corporate, early Windows, Kim Il Sung, etc. Just a thought. Nice work! Al

    Hello from Alaska

Hi-- I'm an old guy (54) living on an island off the coast of Maine. I can't see how the fact that you and your wife share the same computer could possibly disqualify your wife from opening her own x10hosting account. If you're both using the same email address, that's a differant story: tnen...

Can I Make The Page Load First Then The Adverts?

Hi-- This site www.netmechanic.com/news/vol6/css_no18.htm has a nice intro to preloading with CSS, plus a link to an earlier article on preloading with javascript. Al

    New Band Website, Please review

I like the site & also pretty much agree with the comments. I tried the "readme" link & got a 404 (page not found error). Are you sure about that URL? I was also wondering about the login/password feature. What's that all about? Al

9000+ websites down due to explosion at H1 data center

Great posting -- thanks! I've been wondering why performance was so bad on a lot of sites. I hope others in the x10 community will share stuff like this. I've an omninous feeling some funky things are going to start happening on the Net, fairly soon, and posts like this help us separate fact...

    Hot Sites!

Both sites are pretty complex. When a first time visitor hits a complex site, it's really helpful if you can find out what a site is all about after 1-2 seconds. Webdisgner-wall solves that problem with a good sub title. But ndesign-studio hides that info down in the "About" section at the very...

    US Primaries: any world interest?

Hi -- A nice thing about x10 is that so many people here are from all around the planet. In the US we're currently holding our primaries (that's where the two big parties choose their candidates for the next presidential election). I was wondering if anyone outside the US was paying any...

    Script problems: try local hosting

Hi all-- In reading the forums, I've seen a lot of postings regarding script problems. People get 404's , can't connect to mySql, or whatever. A good way to miminize the hassles of getting a site up & running is to build it on your own machine, get it running, then upload it to your...

Access problems with CGI Perl scripts

My site uses some simple CGI Perl scripts. I got 404's when I tried to access them, and Corey very kindly told me that I had to link my forum and hosting accounts, then helped me do that when I hit problems. (Thanks Corey!). Unfortunately, this didn't fix the problem. So I moved the scripts...

Another 404 on CGI Perl scripts

There was a recent post re 404's on Perl scripts: I'm wondering if I may be running into the same problem? I uploaded a trivial print-env-vars script into my cgi-bin directory, chmod'ed to 755, and got 404 when I tried to access it. The url is...

    Hi everybody

My name is Al & I live in the Northeast corner of the USA. I joined x10 to build a site and am a little confused about the relation between forums and hosting, but expect that will become clear in the days to come.
