@diablo I agree completely and that's in the article I posted. But, short of converting the text to some other format, these few annoyances are the only thing you can do to try to curb plagiarism. Really, if someone can read something in any way, they can simple write it down and copy it that way.

it should automatically check every so often. I think 10 minutes is default. Sending should be immediate though. There's probably some setting in the options to change this, but I would think outgoing mail would go instantly by default.

Google, yahoo!, etc have bots that constantly crawl the web and visit every page of every site that they can. You cannot make them visit your site, but you can block them by detecting them through the user-agent string and redirecting them through various means.

Wow, that's pretty ambitious. Just so you know, and I think that xav0989 had this problem, right now you cannot use fsockopen() to connect to facebook at all. In the future, you may be able to do this, but don't count on it. This feature will require php v3.

your smf looks good to me. try clearing your cache and then go to smf->admin->maintenance->forum maintenance->routine maintenance->empty the file cache this will rebuild all of the pages for your site. make sure all the paths are correct in settings.php, and in the admin->configuration->etc. tabs
