This is how I felt before I actually recieved a PSP for Christmas without asking for it:

Anybody else here hate PSP? Well I do. Here is what I have to say:

Those in the gaming realm who know me know that I depise PSP. I love Sony, I love PS2. But PSP is a huge mistake. Multimedia devices are bound to fail. Look at it this way. If someone has an MP3 player, but they're not a movie watcher or gamer, why would they get a PSP? Tell me if I'm wrong, but I doubt PSP has a lot of memory space on those memory cards, meaning you won't be able to put you entire IPod library on your PSP, which in itself is dumb because you already have an MP3...I apologize for the runon. If someone has a poratable DVD player, but doensn't like movies or games, why would they get a PSP. Speaking of which, you can only play movies that are UMD format on your PSP. You could download movies from your computer to your PSP, but that would probably take up too much space on the memory card. Also, most of the games ( sofar) are mostly made by EA. In addition most of these games are just scaled down versions of thier brawnier PS2 cousins. Woopty doo! A miniature version of a game I already have! I'm not saying that all of the PSP's launch titles are suffering the same fate. Games like Metal Gear Ac!d and Death Jr. seem pretty innovative. Now I'm not saying that DS is perfect. Yes the graphics are primitve compared to PSP and the whole touch screen thing is a bit gimicky, and yes its library has mainly remakes of old N64 games, but come on! Nintendo as always done that and it ahs worked. Nintendo remakes their games, but not recent ones, but old ones. Nintendo in recent years has created a Renaissance in gaming. They have brought back the old, but owth a face lift. Taht is why DS is better. It brings back the odl, but with a few more twists to amke it a little more fresh to the verterans of the original games. PSP is attempting to remake the new, which I think is a horrible move. Essentially, the world isn't ready for PSP. Sony should have waited another five years to release PSP, so during the time of its realease, would create a huge nostalgic uproar in the gaming world. Well...Sony is just going to have to live with their mistake fo now...

...wait...there's more...
I appreciate the support. I predict that the majority of people who have PSP and the majority of people who are planning to get PSP are not gamers. The gaming culture has expanded, but it has had some negative effects. There has been an increase of mainstream gamers (people who play video games casually...I hate them so much...morons...). Sadly, there has been a decrease of us...the few... the proud...hardcore gamers. Gaming-wise (I hate using the -wise...but I had no choice) PSP is not that great. Most of the games are scaled down PS2 ports while DS either has new, original games or nostalgic games from N64. Although both systems lack a lot of variety in the their game libraries, at least the DS has brought back games that are not so recent. I don't mind replaying games from eight, seven six years ago, but I would feel a little cheated by replaying games that came out...say... couple of months ago. PSP should not be advertised as a gaming device. It is an insult to all of us. It is attempting to bring mainstream gamers and hardcore gamers together. There is no console or game on that planet that appeals to both mainstream gamers and hardcore gamers. It's either one group or the other...NEVER both. There can never be a proper balance of simplicity and complexity, in a console or game. Like I said...it's either one or the other. Well...that's enough ranting for one day...

...Essentially...PSP sucks!

Well now that I have one...I can't stop using it (unless I'm on the computer

) and this is my new opinion:

They are only the best Portable System that has been created so far...the new games that come out for it are pretty cool, but not as top-class as regular systems...the only thing I hate about the PSP is the movies. I think that is pretty pointless...seeing how you would not watch it over and over and over again and they seem to cost more than a regular DVD. Besides the movies for it, I think its a wonderful portable system liek how the Gameboy was back then :]. The online is pretty easy to set up and inorder to play with friends...they just need the same game and it automatically connects to them! NO wires or cords! that is what I like the best about it.
I would have rate it a 9.0/10

Wow, big change in opinions. I use my PSP for everything, I even posted on these forums sometimes with it. It's simple the greatest invention yet! I'm just waiting for Microsoft to copy the idea Lmao

I've got a 4gb card, and I think they've just released a 16GB, I know iPods can hold alot more, but I've only ever got about 30gb of music anyway and i don#'t listen to all of that at the same time...

The PSP does have afew psp titles, i'm playing patapon at the moment, ff7 crisis core coming soon :D but mainly I can't find many times when I want to play on it... Most of the time if i'm out i'm busy and such and if home I've got my ps3 or computer to play on

the UMD was full of fail for media, but great for gaming imo, I can normal store quite afew videos i've downloaded onto it... more then i have time to watch at college anyway when i've done all my work

Also reason I love it, is its really good for reading downloaded manga ^^

I've got a PSP and Nintendo DS myself... and I can't say that either of them is better than the other. You can store files on the PSP, the DS can't store that much at all... the saves are saved in the game cartridges.

DS has such a huge choice of awesome games from Phoenix Wright to Super Mario. PSPs choices aren't that huge... the only good games I know are Breath of Fire III and Tekken: Dark Resurrection. The games are pretty laggy and have many loading screens as well, but that doesn't kill the game. Not at all. I'm thinking about buying the Final Fantasy Tactics game for it.

The DS has the pretty overestimated touch panel... I almost have no use of it! When I play Harvest Moon DS, it just annoys me that there is one. Why make two screens when Harvest Moon has always ran really well on one...? Petting animals isn't a huge need in my games. The most interactive games, which have good use of the touch screen, are Wario Ware: Touched! and Nintendogs. I think they should make more interactive games like these, otherwise it just feels so unneeded to have a double screen... it's the game makers the shame should be put on, not the DS.

iPods are one of the best things for entertainment (music, videos...), they have huge capacities for own files. PSPs and DSs are to be considered when you want to play bigger games... but I don't mind to occasionally listen to music on my PSP. x'D

I like my psp. I've been modding it and getting custom firmwares for it. But lately I haven't been using it as much. I'm waiting for homebrew games to catch up with the advancements in firmware. There are good homebrew games though. I enjoy the doom and quake ports.

I will say I'm too cheap to buy any games for my psp, unless I happen to see them for $20 or less :p
I mainly use mine for watching movies or listening to music (play a game every now and then). Thinking about getting a bigger memory card to replace my 1gb one.

As long as you mod it I'm sure it's a great handheld.. I just don't have the time to play a handheld (or even use my mp3 player for that matter), so it's not as applicable to me

The PSP's game library has improved a lot over time. I own both a DS and PSP, and while I use the PSP more often I play more games on the DS. I usually use the PSP for music and videos. (Not UMDs.)

I still have a 1 gb memory card. It's a pain, but the price that they're at right now...it could be worse, but I have other things to spend my money on. I have a phat, the slim is tiny and uncomfortable in my hands. (And my hands are pretty small o_O)

The psp is good. Aside from that it can continue to improve and become better with firmware updates. Memory sticks are lowering in price so its like the PS3. The PSP will become the winner handheld soon when it evolves farther than the DS.

Well it's quite good for a portable device but if you want to get the most out of it then you should try installing custom firmware. You can search for this on Google and it can change your PSP forever ;).
