This is how I felt before I actually recieved a PSP for Christmas without asking for it:
Anybody else here hate PSP? Well I do. Here is what I have to say:
Those in the gaming realm who know me know that I depise PSP. I love Sony, I love PS2. But PSP is a huge mistake. Multimedia devices are bound to fail. Look at it this way. If someone has an MP3 player, but they're not a movie watcher or gamer, why would they get a PSP? Tell me if I'm wrong, but I doubt PSP has a lot of memory space on those memory cards, meaning you won't be able to put you entire IPod library on your PSP, which in itself is dumb because you already have an MP3...I apologize for the runon. If someone has a poratable DVD player, but doensn't like movies or games, why would they get a PSP. Speaking of which, you can only play movies that are UMD format on your PSP. You could download movies from your computer to your PSP, but that would probably take up too much space on the memory card. Also, most of the games ( sofar) are mostly made by EA. In addition most of these games are just scaled down versions of thier brawnier PS2 cousins. Woopty doo! A miniature version of a game I already have! I'm not saying that all of the PSP's launch titles are suffering the same fate. Games like Metal Gear Ac!d and Death Jr. seem pretty innovative. Now I'm not saying that DS is perfect. Yes the graphics are primitve compared to PSP and the whole touch screen thing is a bit gimicky, and yes its library has mainly remakes of old N64 games, but come on! Nintendo as always done that and it ahs worked. Nintendo remakes their games, but not recent ones, but old ones. Nintendo in recent years has created a Renaissance in gaming. They have brought back the old, but owth a face lift. Taht is why DS is better. It brings back the odl, but with a few more twists to amke it a little more fresh to the verterans of the original games. PSP is attempting to remake the new, which I think is a horrible move. Essentially, the world isn't ready for PSP. Sony should have waited another five years to release PSP, so during the time of its realease, would create a huge nostalgic uproar in the gaming world. Well...Sony is just going to have to live with their mistake fo now...
...wait...there's more...
I appreciate the support. I predict that the majority of people who have PSP and the majority of people who are planning to get PSP are not gamers. The gaming culture has expanded, but it has had some negative effects. There has been an increase of mainstream gamers (people who play video games casually...I hate them so much...morons...). Sadly, there has been a decrease of us...the few... the proud...hardcore gamers. Gaming-wise (I hate using the -wise...but I had no choice) PSP is not that great. Most of the games are scaled down PS2 ports while DS either has new, original games or nostalgic games from N64. Although both systems lack a lot of variety in the their game libraries, at least the DS has brought back games that are not so recent. I don't mind replaying games from eight, seven six years ago, but I would feel a little cheated by replaying games that came out...say... couple of months ago. PSP should not be advertised as a gaming device. It is an insult to all of us. It is attempting to bring mainstream gamers and hardcore gamers together. There is no console or game on that planet that appeals to both mainstream gamers and hardcore gamers. It's either one group or the other...NEVER both. There can never be a proper balance of simplicity and complexity, in a console or game. Like I said...it's either one or the other. Well...that's enough ranting for one day...
...Essentially...PSP sucks!
Well now that I have one...I can't stop using it (unless I'm on the computer
) and this is my new opinion:
They are only the best Portable System that has been created so far...the new games that come out for it are pretty cool, but not as top-class as regular systems...the only thing I hate about the PSP is the movies. I think that is pretty pointless...seeing how you would not watch it over and over and over again and they seem to cost more than a regular DVD. Besides the movies for it, I think its a wonderful portable system liek how the Gameboy was back then :]. The online is pretty easy to set up and inorder to play with friends...they just need the same game and it automatically connects to them! NO wires or cords! that is what I like the best about it.
I would have rate it a 9.0/10
