Hi,

I noticed that you have suspended my account due to "password cracking". That is only partially true - it is password cracking, but I'm performing a security audit on the site to test user password strength. These statistics were intended to be emailed to S2 games with a full report on how they could improve their current security system with a list of full recommendations. It would also include a report detailing WHY improving their security is important, along with a list of statistics on user insecurity. The security audit was going great until now... and that's fine, but...

If you do not wish for me to carry out my proceedings on your services, can I please get a backup of the SQL database, along with a copy of index.php and records.php? Alternatively, if you can give me an hour or so to vacate my property off of your services, I'll be sure to not waste your time.

Best Regards.

Cracking is listed under the list of examples in the Warez section of the TOS; it makes it a Zero Tolerance suspension with no access to the files or database permitted.

I can understand the reasons for doing a security audit, but it's not within x10's TOS to allow that on your site, which is why it got suspended.

I must have overread that part, because while I do look for cracking within the ToS (it is something I read!), I do not search for cracking under 'warez' (which is more a term for cracked software, not cracking software).

Now that I know that it is not permitted under the conditions set forth by the ToS - it is not an activity that I will carry out here any longer (and I apologize for inadvertently breaking the rules - ignorance is not an excuse), but I still kindly ask the I can recover my files + data before leaving. You have my word that I will not return under a different alias.

Pretty please? :)

Regards.

Backups of your files and databases are not going to be available, as also stated in the ToS. The data will be deleted after 14 days.

I'm asking for a one-time exception as this was a legitimate mistake. I realize that the data will be gone in 14 days, which is why I'm making inroads to recover my property off of the server while it still exists, while hoping I can get at least temporary cooperation from X10 so that I can move on and not create anymore of a fuss than I've already created.

I've had a job at a free + paid hosting company before, and I understand livewire's job and the reasons for doing it, but while these people exist to remove those from the service who break the rules and terms, you don't really gain anything per se by denying a vacating user access to his files after making an accident.

I have contacted a senior staff member, he has told me that there will be no exception end of story, you broke the rules, you lost everything. In future read the terms of service.
