Adding Ads in Wordpress

I'm having trouble putting the ads in Wordpress. I recently decided to go from a "regular site" to trying out Wordpress and I can't figure out where to add the code for the ads. I saw the "header" file but when I try to put the ad code in the file, and then load my site, I get an error. Can anyone help me with this please?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

STEP1: go to your Word Press Folder and if it is THE root folder proceed to step two..
STEP2: go to wp_content folder
STEP3: go to themes folder
STEP4: go to the folder you want to add the banner..
STEP5: and final go to header.php in that folder...
STEP6: also center the code using <center> PUT BANNER code HERE </center>

Didn't work. I'm gettin this at the top of the page instead of the banner:


echo "\n"; echo "\n";


Got any suggestions?

I messed around wit it some more and fixed it. Thanks for the help.
