Gmail seems to have messed up for me too. I know another that this happened to but I know that servers will keep files over an extended period of time.

What I cannot understand is that if a company is going to destroy your files for the "sin" of not logging in in over a month they could at least do the courtesy of sending the poor guy his/her files and ask them to simply re-upload.

Clients should be given a grace period especially if they've been with you for over a year - which is my case. I wanted my site. I just can't believe how unforgiving this all is when I really had no control over certain things that came up. A grace period would have been nice.

Is there anyway you can find it in your hearts to restore?

Like lylex pointed out you could have switched over to the premium version of x10hosting and relying on a free service is not always the best idea.. The only thing I'd add is that you can try and visit the site with WayBack Machine at https://archive.org/ and see if they have an archived version of the site avaible. You won't be able to recover the back end code but you'll be able to recover the most of the html files if it's archived :)

Hope I could help!

1. Always maintain a backup of your files. With other Cloud storage solutions from Dropbox, Google, and Microsoft, there is no reason/excuse not to. If you always upload your files from those sites, you'll always have reliable backups of whatever you have online, no matter what happens to your personal devices.

2. X10 TOS for the free service are pretty clear. The time to debate them and/or to decide if they meet your needs would seem to be before you've learned the hard way that they're real.

Sorry to hear you're having this hassle. I know from experience that righteous feedback doesn't make it feel any better.
