Resolved Apache is functioning normally

Hi,

I just added a second domain to my account, my main/original account seems to be fine, however if I uncheck "secure SSL" I get "Apache is functioning normally" on my PC. With it checked on my PC I don't get the message and it displays as expected. Strangely irrespective of if "secure SSL" is checked on my phone I always get the "Apache is funtioning normally" message

If you want to be able to use https (though you'd be using the server cert and users would get an error) it needs to be turned on.

DirectAdmin allows for different content on http and https, and unless you configure it as as symbolik link (which I believe is default with ssl turned on) you would need to put the content for https in private_html, while http uses public_html.

Another reason to get the apache function normally for new domains is the config files need to reload with the new domain information, and once you got the apache function normally it can stick in local browser cache for a little bit, it is possible your phone has a longer cache time, or the phone provider for you phone caches their end to speed browsing up, if the later all you can do is wait for it to clear.

Thank you for the quick response.

I don't want to be using https which is why I attempted to turn it off, however this just gives me the apache error. I've tried playing around with it sadly to no avail.

You can also check if your installed software does redirects automatically. Some software such as WordPress have an option to force the user to use SSL. Please also check if your .htaccess has any redirects in it.

There is no installed software and there isn't any re-directs in the htaccess file

It's only loading with "Secure SSL" turned on, which means users get a certificate invalid error. I'd like to avoid this by having SSL turned off as it's not needed anyway, however if I turn it off I get the "Apache is funtioning normally" message

You would need to start with unchecking the "Force SSL with https redirect" under domain management.

You would need to uncheck that before turning of SSL, turning off ssl with that setting still activated tends to cause some problems.

With the redirect being cached (I believe both on server and locally in browser) it can take a while to actually reflect in your browser, especially if you visited the site while the setting was active

Thank you for your response.

I've followed your instructions, and it's been 12 hours since. Should the server side cache have updated now? If so it's still showing the apache message.

I added some paramaters to the URI which should I believe have forced a refresh, but it made no difference.

Do you have any more suggestions? Is it worth me removing the domain from the account and re-adding it?

The redirect can be stubbornly stuck in browser cache as well.

I get the redirect on regular chrome (which I used to visit the site prior), but I have no redirect with incognito mode or when using my cellphone to visit the site.

Clearing browser cache may speed it up, but it is also possible that your ISP have a cache at their end to speed things up for you, especially if you are on a mobile connection
