Singular
nerd

Plural
nerds

nerd (plural nerds)
  1. (slang) A generally intelligent person who shows interest and aptitude in multiple, usually academic-related subjects (as opposed to geeks, who are only interested in one such subject). This definition is independent of social skills.
  2. (slang) A person with a passion for a seemingly trivial and non-sports related pursuit, misunderstood by society at large but proud of personal achievements.

Well, I myself love computers, and spend most of my time on them. But I also love sports, espeacially hockey. By being good on a PC does that make you a nerd? Its funny just because you are good at computers you are now called a nerd. I am just a webmaster and know some GFX and html and out of my friends I am a comouter genius:drool:  !! I find this funny because I am hardly one. But I am sure that most people would say that youre a nerd if you dont like any sports and only like computer/internet stuff.

By not liking sports and liking computers, does this make you a nerd?

I think that a nerd literally means someone who cares about education very excessively. So I don't think that by being good at computers you become a nerd.

well now that i voted and read other's posts, i'd like to take my vote back lol, cuz some people call me a nerd cuz i really love computers, but i do like sports and other things, i just don't play any sports in school or w/e, but idk, i'm hardly a nerd when it comes to computers, maybe out of my family, but there are tons of people out there who are smarter than me in computer programming and shiz like that, i'm sure there are a lot that are even younger than me....who knows? who cares? lol :dunno:

Geeks come from the circus. Nerds just like doing things others wouldn't understand at all :D

(Google for geeks as you will find it interesting about the history)

No i do not think that you are nerd if you are really good with a PC. I find the term offensive!

I think in today's society the term "nerd" is a little overrated. Also, in today's society there is a need to be good at using a computer. Almost every application/job/occupation/action/hobby/sport/anything, requires some sort of computer to function.

(Even when you sleep, you need a computer to wake you up - an alarm clock!)

derz actually a diff between GEEKS and NERDS...
GEEKS are computer enthusiats that f'ing pwn NERDS who if you seen one, (a true one) you would would vomit (literally)

im a hardcore computer enthusiast but I dont come of as a nerd nor a geek lol - i find it absolutely idioticly shallow to lable someone apart from humour situations, when I tell people about my enthusiasm with comps they lable me and there whole idea about me changes, its like sad, you wouldnt label someone who has parkinsons would you? (unless you are a complete f-tard)

Well of course we're not going to say "yes, we are all nerds!" For cryin out loud we're on an online forum. Not even a website based off forums, a WEB HOSTING COMPANY FORUM!!! Now, don't get me wrong, x10 is teh pwn and this is in no way bashing x10 or any forum, but don't you think that others may lable us a bit as geeks, etc...

Unless you are Korean. Then nobody there makes fun of you. Except for America. (lol jk)

LOL. At least we're actually doing something productive online - communicating (well, through a webhosting company's forum). I suppose it's better than not communicating when you sit in front of the TV (you just sit there staring, with mouth wide-open) ;)

Nope. I'm great with computers but I'm not a genius when it comes to academics. I'm the average person, but with a bit more tech knowledge; doesn't make me a nerd

Embrace the nerd in you! Sure, I indulge in some sporting and non-computer related events, but I love computers too. I program and design and surf the web. Does that make me a nerd? OF COURSE!

(I just purchased 7 ThinkGeek t-shirts for the holidays, in case you doubt me.)

I don't think that being good on the PC alone makes you a nerd

Well, not in todays world. 10 years ago, probably. But who really cares about being called a nerd? Sticks and stones, and all that nonsense. :shifty:
