Arrow Keys or WASD?

What do you pefer when playing a game?

WASD, or Arrow Keys?

I pick WASD.

I used to use arrow keys since WASD seemed to feel uncomfortable for me.. however, once my friend set the controls to default (COD and CS:S) and I used them, gameplay became MUCH better. I can't go back to arrows lol.

W = Up
A = Left
S = Back
D = Right
Shift = Slow walk
ZXC = Radio commands
V = Crouch (was CTRL but I changed it because I'd keep hitting the Window key.. stupid Window key..)
Space = Jump
Q = Quick switch
R = Reload
E = Use
G = Pick up weapon
F = Microphone

I suppose in some cases it may actually depend on how you sit at your computer...I mean some people find it more 'natural' to use the arrow keys and some may say the WASD keys can get you confused, as it is in amongst so many other keys...

For myself, I'd prefer the arrow keys, but in the end I don't really mind which set of keys I use...after playing a game for a while, you could say you just get used to it.


Here's a thought: Maybe people with a preference for using their left hand (lefties) or people that are more 'co-ordinated' with their left hand may want to choose the WASD keys rather than the arrow keys...vice versa for right-handers and the arrow keys...it can be pretty logical in that sense...

I've been playing games since the DOS + Windows 3.1 era, and I just can't get myself used to the WASD format, so still the arrow keys for me.

I'm definitely a WASD fan. I used to use the arrow keys back in the day when the original CS was still in its infancy. Then I switched because I realized that my hands were too cramped together. I would slide my keyboard over to the left so that the arrow keys were in a more comfortable spot. Then I realized how stupid I was, and switched to WASD (no more keyboard sliding).

Kinda depends on what hand you're using your mouse with as well I would think... I mean, I find it difficult to cram both of my hands into the area where the arrows and mouse are on my keyboard tray, but it's easy for me to sit with WSAD and the mouse.

On the other hand, if you use your mouse with your left hand, I can see WSAD and the mouse being as uncomfortable as arrows and the mouse are for me...

Still kinda depends on the game itself though. If all that's happening is moving, and the game supports hot-seat 2 player gaming, I'll use the arrows and mouse so a buddy can use the rest of the keyboard. If the game requires me to hit other stuff besides just moving (the easiest 2 I can come up with are UT2004 and BF2), WSAD all the way.

Nah, not for me. I'm a righty through and through, but i find keyboard control easier with my left hand. Wierd no?

Well arrows are easier to find, but there more for navagation in veicles. The letters is good becaues your close t the reast of the letters, making gaming easier

hehe I definetly go for WASD because it might be more confusing but you get more keys around you so its easier for games to get your items closer to your hand... for example America's Army, u get the run, crouch, prone, select, switch weapon and toggle run/walk all close to my hand cuz they all rigt next 2 eachother... same for Halo

i use my left hand on the keyboard because wasd are close to space and ctrl so i normanly set space to jump and ctrl to crouch and r is close as well for reloading in games. my keybinding fit better for me even though im right handed.

Erm for me it is a mixture of both! Sometimes it is the arrow keys/mouse and other times its WASD etc! Depends what game I am on!

Well for me I make games - and i find that most people like to use any of them - sometimes i try and use both however if i think it dosen't work then i will just use the arrow keys personally it is the arrow keys for me. W,A,S,D just dont seem right to me.

WASD for sure. So much more convenient. I like being able to use my right hand, my good hand, for all the other details while my left hand just steers on the left hand side, the logical place for it to be.
