I think the question is more fundamental, then just "ASP(.net) vs PHP"... It's a question of internet standards, and who is willing to work with them (php) and who will work against them every chance they get (M$)...
I prefer PHP. It's remains a good OO programming language, while keeping to standards. And btw, you don't have to be running a proprietary software, on a proprietary OS to get it up and running.
