hello.
i wanted to look into the easiest way to track visitors to my website:
username, ip address, timestamp.
on searching the 'free hosting' i found a thread on this topic. someone recommended AWstats.
but another user said it was not available with the free hosting package. finally the administrator responded that the server logs will be unavailable for the time being, and the thread was closed.

can someone let me know what is the easiest way to track visitors with the free hosting .

AWStats has been disabled from cPanel. However, I believe that the recent visitors feature in your cPanel is still functioning.

I recommend using Google Analytics (http://analytics.google.com) as they provide a pretty intensive and specific report for who your visitors are.

I also highly recommend Google Analytics. I use it for every one of my Web sites. I'm sure you'll find it very valuable and useful.

Good luck with your Web site!

I believe AWStats was removed due to resource issues with the servers, so that's why it's not there. It used to be in cPanel though.

That sounds about right, I know that the Backup feature in cPanel was removed because it uses a lot of CPU.

I believe that was removed due to memory issues. I know that when I would dump my site through there, when the server had high memory usage the download would end prematurely and it'd be all corrupt.
