Anti-Virus: Kerpasky for Paid or AntiVir for Free.
Anti-Spy: Spysweaper, or Ad-Aware 2007
Firewall: Hardened Linux Distro with ZoneAlarm running on machines behind linux machine.

Hi,

I dont think there is a Best of the rest. Each has its own strong points. For me, I just use all the freewares, AVG , Ad-Aware and Windows firewall.

But I hate Norton.

Im using ESET Smart Security v3.0 which has Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware and Firewall. I like ESET more than AVG because im using AVG Internet Security Before but uses much computer resources. But i agree that Nod32 (eset) uses less computer resources that's why im sticking with eset ;).

For this computer I dont have anything but the standard windows firewall and my router's firewall, but for my desktop, Im using an expired version of mcafee to block actions from spyware and viruses plus its firewall, and if I do get a virus or spyware, I use the free spyware doctor in the google pack to get rif of it

I've got both ZoneAlarm and McAfee, both are the paid versions (I got a free 3 year subscription to McAfee with my laptop.). Zonealarm is used on our two desktops, while McAfee is installed on my laptop. We also have a very good hardware firewall in our router.

Both have all the needed features but I've found McAfee to be very slow, even when it's just scanning a short e-mail.

There's also the rumour that the large companies like ZoneAlarm have built backdoors into their software for the NSA. I'm not sure whether I believe this of not, but I wouldn't be too surprised if it's true.

I doubt those rumors. Unless a hacker can prove that completely, then I don't see why not to use ZoneAlarm. The only thing I've really heard was NSA wiretapping, which has helped defray a lot of the bad things about the government itself here in NY.
