Just bought a dedicated server.
Intel Celeron Series - 2.0+

Intel Celeron 2.0GHz+
1024 MB RAM
IDE
80GB Hard Drive
OS: Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard - 32 bit
Urchin 100 profiles
MySQL
5 IP Addresses
750 GB Bandwidth
10 Mbps Uplink

69.99 waived setup and free ram upgrade. From theplanet.com I might try softlayer soon. Once I get more money. I'm going to upgrade the internet speed for $10.00 later to 100mpbhsw/e.

It's not bad. If you expect your site to be extremely busy, you may just want to improve the uplink a little bit, that's all. Otherwise, that's pretty cheap for a dedicated server as well.

About the internet speed $10 for 100mbps, how much download/upload does it offer you? Unlimited?

I think the bandwidth is 750 GB a month.. I could get it doubled instead of ram.. I think it may be unlimited.. I'm not sure. I remember x10 used them before they switched to softlayer.

You should definetely switch to SoftLayer when you get the money. I have a Quad Core Xeon with them and I couldn't be happier.

I also recommend SoftLayer. I didn't see any negative reviews about them. I'll also be switching to SoftLayer soon.

I would think it stays at 750 GB as an unmetered 100mbps connection is typically about $1,000/month.

Was just curious about these dedicated servers. How it work? I mean what you get, do you get only servers and then you need to install OS and all other software etc with configuration or you get something like what is available with any dedicated hosting with cpanel hosting option?

It depends. IF you get managed dedicated, you get your own server, but the data center manages the server. If you are experienced with servers and want root access to the server, you can get unmanaged. But, if for some reason your server breaks and it needs to be reinstalled or something, then you'll need to pay the data center to fix it. That's all. Managed does cost a little more, but if you know what you are doing, you can eliminate the managing cost.

Mine isn't managed and it doesn't have a panel for me to reset like viritto or w/e but I can ask sales to reset it for me.

Do you mean Virtuozzo? Virtuozzo is for VPS's, not for dedicated servers.

Then you would have to partition the servers into VPS's, Virtuozzo is "an Operating System level server virtualization solution".
