Can HDMI Ethernet cables be used instead of non ethernet cables? Are there any risks of damage to equipment?

Uses are:

1 Sony Blu Ray player to Bravia TV

2 Laptop to Bravia TV, to carry the monitor picture to the TV - so Netflix will work! Sound can go via 3.5,, audio cable

You can view netflix on your computer and hook your video/audio out to your TV.

I don't think a TV will use HDMI to get on the network; I think the TV is supposed to act like a hub and give each device access to the internet while the TV gets internet from the ethernet port. Wireless N and 1000Mb/s ethernet is faster than HDMI ethernet.

This is all low-voltage, so there's not really a risk of ever damaging anything low-voltage unless you somehow get high voltage mixed in.

Thanks Garrett,
Having tried it, HMDI-Ethernet cables work just fine as ordingary hdmi cables. There is some advice to the effect that hdmi cables of any sort should NOT be plugged in / out when the devices are turned on as they can apparently pass power down the cable.
