Connection Problems

Sorry, SMF was unable to connect to the database. This may be caused by the server being busy. Please try again later.

Forum URL: http://bbdrserver.x10.bz/

If someone know how to fix it or something then please tell me...

1. that domain is attached to the Forum account exec97 . You should log in and make further requests with that name.

2. Did the SMF ever work? If so, when did it start failing?

3. cPanel --> PHPMyAdmin ... can you go there?

4. cPanel --> Remote MySQL ... are there IP addresses listed? if so, what are they?

Hello NoCrime147,

Your Remote MySQL IP settings are correct.

What if you try to re-create your DB username/password?

Do you know how to safely do that from cPanel > Databases > MySQL Databases?

If you don’t, please post back for instructions.

OK, I’m assuming you gave the db-user all the privileges. – Next step:

What happens when you establish a simple php connection to the database?

Can you connect using the same username/password given to your database forum? Do you get errors?

I’m sorry if these are things you already tried, but it helps to rule out possible problems.

If a simple PHP connect works fine, have you tried the repair_settings.php tool from Simple Machines?

Download repair_settings.php

Hey NoCrime147,

Since your Forum is still showing the same error message, I doubt the server is always busy. You said that it was working before the SAN move (or close to that date) and you haven't made any changes since.

You have also deleted and recreated the MySQL username/database and still no results. This makes me wonder if you are able to establish a simple connection to your database using a simple PHP script like the one shown here: Tizag Tutorial mysqlconnection

But maybe you do not want to mess around with PHP scripts and that’s fine. Also, chances are that the PHP will work so let’s assume for now that it does.

So at this point what are your options?

Option 1: Backup your forum database and reinstall your SMF forum.

It may sound a little drastic, but probably the easiest way to go, especially if you didn’t change that much the original SMF installation.

Option 2: Create a new MySQL username/password for your forum.

This possible solution requires you to:

  1. Create new username/password (show me how)
  2. Add user to the database (show me!)
  3. Use the repair_settings.php tool from Simple Machines to change settings.

Download and save repair_settings.php (download it!)
Save this file to your forum directory
Update your settings with this tool (show me!)

Option 3: Do nothing and hope the problem goes away.

You can PM me if you need assistance. Good luck and I hope you don't go for Option: 3!
