I am currently using a free account and I haven't experienced this problem before. When I try to connect to my ftp (using filezilla) this is what I get:

Status:Resolving address of ftp.(mydomainname)
Status:Connecting to 199.2.137.140:21...
Status:Connection established, waiting for welcome message...
Error:Connection timed out
Error:Could not connect to server
Status:Waiting to retry...

I can access my files through cpanel file manager though.

The IP that is displayed as the one ftp is connecting to is not one of ours, when checking it up it comes back as belonging to Microsoft.

That would be why it fails.

I see that your main domain is currently a co.cc domain, those stopped working properly a few months back when co.cc went down. Your parked domain resolves properly to our servers though, so if you use that it should work. You can also use the server address: level.x10hosting.com for host when connecting to ftp.
x10.
We can change your main domain to a subdomain under one of the free domains we offer: x10.mx, x10.bz, pcriot.com, x10host.com or elementfx.com which would give you a working main domain as well.

Thanks for the reply. You're right, it worked when I used my parked domain. Can you make it my main domain (my current parked domain)?

No, we only allow the main domain to be a subdomain if the domains we provide, for the exact reason as you were having trouble with the co.cc domain.
External domains can stop working, either because the third party free domain provider did close down, or someone forgets to renew a custom bought domain, we have this limitation to ensure that there is at least one working domain on the account at all times.

Okay, then I would like to use iampaul.x10host.com as my main domain. How long does it take to change that?

The domain has been changed.

There may be a little delay before it is fully functional, this is called propagation time. Usually it works within the hour, but it can take considerably longer.
