I did look through the forums. There are over 600,000 posts in over 100,000 threads. I don't know if I stumbled into the Free Hosting forum or not - probably did, but I apparently didn't see the one key thread.
An outage as serious as this needs to be more visible, especially for new users.
It would have been better to place it under "Important Links" or in x10Hosting -> News Announcements, or gee, how about x10Hosting -> Service Alerts ?
I did look deeply into these places I mentioned for any clue about what I may have been doing wrong.
Finally, when I click on the hosting link in the control panel, I get
Woah! It appears that you do not have hosting under your client account. This could be the result of a different scenarios:
- An older account was removed as the result of inactivity.
- A past account has been terminated for breaching our Terms of Service.
- You have never had a hosting account.
Whatever the reason, you can always
sign up for a hosting account now.
If you believe that this is a mistake you may
open a support ticket here.
I had gone through the process of creating a hosting account and the language in the above panel certainly suggests that it is appropriate to open a ticket if there is some sort of problem. Your software is broken and I was reporting it. And yes, I failed to find the needle in the haystack posting about it. Yes, forums area great for "how to do this" sort of questions, but support tickets are appropriate for BROKEN software.
Please don't assume that I didn't at least try to do the right thing. You're probably getting flooded with tickets about this, but if you put a notice in a more prominent place in the forums and/or make a minor change the the registration pages to say that things are not working, you'd likely be less frustrated.
But thanks anyway for providing the free hosting service. I do understand some of the economic and support issues, and I am trying to learn more about the entire service by trying it. I'll patiently await the fix.
Thanks.
