Cannot modify main domain

I get this error message; "The domain you have supplied is already in use."

At one point, I pointed my domain at the x10hosting nameservers. Once I realized I could configure the domain without having to do that, I pointed it back at godaddy's nameservers.

But if you are mentioning about addon domains or subdomains, also provide that particular domain so that the necessary corrections/suggestions can be given.
