I have submitted an official support ticket on this but figured I'd post here as well since Official Support won't be back until Monday.

that said....Here goes (What I hope is) nothing....

====================

I have made SEVERAL attempts to update my webcam page here & can't get the new content to show up.

According to the Source Code, there's supposed to be a flash player from BOTH LiveStream & FlashWebTown as well as an embedded Windows Media Player plugin as I use StreamWebTown's free Windows Media service too. But all that shows up is the FlashWebTown Flash Player & the Windows Media Player plugin. That's it. The LiveStream player is nowhere to be found. :(

I have tried everything under the sun. I have tried swapping out players. I have tried rearranging them. I have tried everything else you can think of. But all that shows up is the FlashWebTown Flash Player & the Windows Media Player plugin. That's it. No update. No sign of modification to the page. NOTHING.

This happens with every browser. Be it Firefox, IE, Safari, Opera or Chrome. It doesn't matter. I've even tried viewing the page with Mozilla SeaMonkey. Same problem.

Now I did create a folder called webcam under /webcam (See this screen capture) but can't figure out how to delete it. Somehow I think the Stoli server is drawing from THAT folder (Which doesn't have the updated page) rather from /public_html/webcam which DOES have the updated page).

JFTR....My site is on Stoli.

What can be done to correct this? Any help would be appreciated as I am STUMPED as to what to try next. *perplexed look*

Many thanks in advance

Pat

Unless you forgot to upload your new page, ie. through the ftp method, there are no other reasons that the new content would not be updated.
And, btw, clear your browser cache and reload the page.

Good luck!

First (As Nick suggested), I did read the post that Corey put up. But somehow I don't think that has anything whatsoever (Short of not being able to access the page) to do with the updating process itself.

As for FTP, it's WORSE than using the File Manager. At least I can ACTUALLY connect to that. I don't trust the stability of FTP on here for as far as I can throw my computer (Which ain't very far because it's an old AMD Duron 1 Ghz. Desktop PC with one of the old skool tall & bulky towers. Not like the small, lite & shorty towers you see nowadays). As such, I don't use it.
And, btw, clear your browser cache and reload the page.
Did that - MANY TIMES OVER. Firefox doesn't even have a cache to clear, though I did clear the browsing history. IE is my No. 2 choice in case I run into a site which Firefox chokes on (There are a few out there). Opera is my No. 3 choice for sites which neither IE or Firefox work well with & SeaMonkey is my No. 4 choice & is my last resort browser since Safari is unstable & Chrome is still basically a PC version of a cell phone browser.

I don't even bother with either Netscape 4.79 or Netscape 8 (Though I do have them) because I figure if I can't get what I want with any of the above browsers, using Netscape won't be of any more help.

So that's my situation as it stands now.....

Cheers :)

Pat

P.S. My page is just simple a HTML page with Flash code from LiveStream FlashWebTown for the Flash Players & the typical Windows Media Active X object for the StreamWebTown Windows Media URL

If it IS a caching problem, it might be because your ISP might have some sort of caching server that dont "refresh" certain things... If that's the case you may need to contact your ISP about the problem, I've dealt with a few users before who had that problem with their ISP... So you may need to check and see if your behind some sort of proxy your ISP may have setup.

Firefox doesn't even have a cache to clear

Firefox does have a cache... Click the Tools menu, and click "Clear private data", and select "Offline Website Data" and "Cache"

If caching is the problem, you can add this meta tag:

Code:
<META HTTP-EQUIV="CACHE-CONTROL" CONTENT="NO-CACHE">

Well unless Comcast has deployed a caching server or proxy in the last several days, I don't think that's the problem as every time I've updated a page, successfully uploaded it & (If/As needed) did everything else that had to be done in order for it to be seen, I have seen the new content.

In addition, the source code of my webcam page has the current content I want on it (Feel free to check it out for yourself to see if the LiveStream player shows up for you).

I'll soon start a thread on the LiveStream boards in case it's a coding issue of some kind with the player itself. If THAT is the case, then this discussion is pretty much a moot point until and/or unless the code is fixed.

Did that. Was never prompted to select anything though. :(

Hm. Did you change the content at flashwebtown.com and streamwebtown? I would think the problem is the file you are linked to is not changed, or you uploaded a new file and the file name changed, but you're still linked to the old file.

Nope.

In fact, lemme try to show you by using source code which should be showing vs. what is showing......
Code:

This is what IS NOT supposed to be showing. Yet that's what I see online through my web browser.

More later after this storm passes.

Cheers :)

Pat

EDIT I've started a thread here on LiveStream's forum in case it's a coding issue with their players. Neither FlashWebTown nor StreamWebTown have forums to speak of.

Hi guys,

It is nothing to do with his link. My site does the same, I even deleted the whole source code, saved the empty file and I hit refresh, the old page with text still shows up! When you click 'view' on the file manager, it shows an empty file however.

I have cleared the cache and it happens on both IE and Firefox.

I suppose you should submit a ticket then. This is theoretically impossible. The server does not cache files like this. But, Corey is doing some work on the server, so maybe there is something going on of which I am unaware.
