Hi.

I currently cannot upload files to my 'public_html' directory via FTP.
Using Filezilla (v3.47.2.1) I get the following error:
"553 Can't open that file: Read-only file system"

Also, when trying to update a plugin within my WordPress site, WordPress is asking for my FTP details (which it has never done before).

I expect both problems are connected.
I have not changed anything with regard to my hosting account recently (nor have I changed any permissions on any directories).

Can anyone please help? Thanks!

I would indeed expect them to be somewhat related.

In your account you do however have three public_html (which you should as you have three domains), for all of them it looks right at a first glance. Do you have a problem with them all? If you use your base account to login to ftp you would see the root folder, in which there is a symbolic link to the public_html folder belonging to the default domain, uploading to that would fail (though clicking it to open *should* open the linked folder).

To reach the public_html through ftp the path would be /domains/<domain name>/public_html

As for upgrading wordpress, which of the installs do you get that problem with, or do you get it on both?

Thanks for the reply.

The problem happens account-wide: in the base account 'public_html' folder and in both of my custom domains.
(Edit: I'm uploading to the same places I've uploaded to before using the same FTP settings.)

The WordPress problem happens in both WordPress sites: in the root and in one of my custom domains.

Looks like another user is experiencing a similar issue here: https://x10hosting.com/community/threads/enter-ftp-credentials-to-proceed.207634/

By using the same ftp settings, depending on setting, you may be attempting to upload to the old server.

If you use the server address (xo#.x10hosting.com) for instance, you would need to update that to reflect the new server you are on which is: x12.x10hosting.com

I also noticed that your domains for some reason pointed to the old servers, which I have now corrected. Hopefully that solves the problem.

Thank you for your help.
I have created a new FTP account (in DirectAdmin and Filezilla) and everything seems to be working again (including the WordPress dashboard updates).

Thanks again!
