Hi.

I'm using your free hosting service (thanks you, sincerely), and have a problem with the PinIt button for Pinterest in my WordPress site. When I use this button, gives me a "Sorry we could not fetch the image". I've searched to resolve it, and found one possible way: disable the HOTLINK PROTECCION from cPanel and/or block direct access to some extensions. Problem is that I disable the HOTLINK PROTECCION, it say that is disabled, but the PinIt button does the same error, and on cPanel the HOTLINK PROTECCION appears enabled, and with originals blocked extensions. Can I do something, or is just my free level hosting?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Gabriel.

Go to cPanel
File Manager
Find .htaccess file
Open
Copy and paste here (put in CODE tags [next to QUOTE in tool bar above]) so we can tell you how to edit it to remove the hot-link protection.

Hi, and thanks for this fastest attention.
I've tried to edit .htaccess but only can see
AuthType Basic
AuthName "/home/amanox12"
AuthUserFile "/home/amanox12/.htpasswds//passwd"
require valid-user

Waiting & happy.
Gabriel.

And you're sure that the fact that the directory being password protected so Pinterest has no access to the image has nothing to do with it, right?

Good idea, but...
Now the directory is not protected. I've logged out & in again, and same problems:
PinIt: "Sorry we could not fetch the image."
.htaccess
AuthType Basic
AuthName "/home/amanox12"
AuthUserFile "/home/amanox12/.htpasswds//passwd"
require valid-user
and HOTLINK PROTECCION doesn't store my changes.

If you want us to help:
1. Post from the Forum account linked to the hosting account. Don't make us hunt it down
2. Remove the directory protection so we can look at the web page.
3. #2 might have to be permanent. Free hosting accounts are for personal websites, not private sites.

List your url. The one I am trying still has the protection on.

Edit your .htaccess so it is empty.

Thanks, descalzo.
I was editing a wrong .htaccess file, and yes, there were more folders protected. Bravo, Gabriel!
Now i'm sure there are no more protected folders, and my problem with HOTLINK PROTECCION continues: doesn't store my changes.

Thanks.

The protection is still there.
Since you don't seem to be willing to make your site available so we can try and fix it, I am done with this.

What exactly is protected that you can't access? It let me on, and I was able to view the image file.

Hi, ace_case.
I've had protected folders before, but I've searched and I can't see protected folders. I can access everywhere. My problem is that I want to DISABLE the HOTLINK PROTECCION; I change it to disable, but it remains enabled. I understand descalzo, but I'm getting mad searching for that proteccion and can´t find it.
Thanks for your attention.
Gabriel.

That was a while ago, ace_case — I'm sure there's been some editing since then. (Wow. 91 HTTP requests? That's horrible). In any case, the problem should be solved at this point. Hotlink protection modifies the .htaccess to ensure that the HTTP_REFERER for the image requests is the local domain (else fail). Directory password protection makes sure that only basic-authenticated users can access the content, and since Pinterest couldn't sign on to the site (or the image directory), it couldn't fetch the images.

I was trying the main URL, which still gives the directory protected. Going to /wp/ works.
And I too see the "Pin it" button.

Now it works!

No, ace_case, I want to share some pictures. My interest protecting folders was because I'm making this work for my brother, and it was a surprise.

Well, you can't do both at the same time, really. The resources need to be publicly available in order for you to share them.
