I have uploaded and extracted my website files in public_html as that is where the domains usually point to.
Yet when i go to url:
http://ata.x10hosting.com/

I get index of/ with a list of files. I cannot extract any files as it's all been done.
Do i need to 'chmod' any files. I tried some, but no difference.

I managed to upload an article directory script yesterday which was fine. But this website is slightly different. Do i need to create databases? Not sure.

Thanks.

My advice is to extract the file in your system and upload only the files in your /homedir/public_html/ to the hosting. using FTP you can do. In that too don't upload all the _vti_ or .htaccess , cgi-bin kind of files and folders.

That's interesting! So i only need to upload in
/homedir/public_html/ from my computer before uploading the extracted files to hosting a/c.

What about the rest of the files like shell, mysql. They seem important. Or is that not necessary?
Last week, gomarc tried to extract files. He sorted them in 4 parts:

01 adb_feeds.zip
02 articles.zip
03 public_html.zp
04 cache.zip

It took him a while to sort out, but i haven't heard from him yet.

Anyway, i'll try that out. Thanks.

Actually you downloaded your entire site backup in another hosting. So it will download all your site including the folders required for your hosting on their linux server.

This is only for backup purpose.

Because all other folders will be available on each and every server as per thei linux.

so they are not required.

You have to upload your /homedir/public_html/ --> x10 hostings public_html

That means you have to upload only the website.

That is my point.

Ah, now i understand! i checked the public_html folder and it is quite large, over 455mb.
Now, the thing with x10hosting server, it keeps disconnecting. I have tried today and yesteday to upload large files. It starts off ok, then after a while it gets disconnected. So i have to start again usually.

I know they are having issues with their server at the moment.

Also, would it not work if i uploaded the compressed files as it would be quicker and then just extract it on the hosting account? Or it may not work?

Ok, no probs.
I was just confused when you mentioned to extract files in my system. But what you meant was to extract the whole website files and then find homedir/public_html.

Thanks for that.

After seeing your website contents in your link I understood that all of them you got from the previous host

All are not required to host on x10

So only find homedir/public_html folder and and only contents of that are your actuial website. So I told to upload on x10 by separating them.

Ok,
I actually requested a backup from the chap i bought the website from.He sent me a backup CD and charged me $35 for it. Is $35 reasonable charge for a backup of website?
I think he just bundled everything together without bothering to extract the important files. Do hosts normally do that as it is quite confusing for a newbie?

The backup system is integrated into cpanel. Any user can do that himself. He charged you unnecessarily.

In x10 the backup feature is diabled to speed up process and replaced with R1 backup and restore option.

If you want to backup to your system just goto Filemanager and compress everything and download.

For mysql you can download with phpmyadmin.

Ok, so from the uploaded file, i located:
homedir/public_html folder (which was about 109.21MB compressed) and copied it to public_html directory on hosting a/c.
Now, i get this:
http://ata.x10hosting.com/

When i change it to index.html (i read somewhere on this forum a while back to change the directory to this name, but not sure if i done it right). i get a plain white page with nothing on. Do i need to chmod some files?
Edit:
Hi gsonline,
I just want to bump up this thread regarding my issue. See reply above.

Thanks.

Hi ata.online,

I see a blogpublish folder. When i select it is showing blank page.

Can you tell us what exactly is your site previously. Is it is worpress or just html or something.or any CMS

Can you confirm that your site contains some files or only folder. Because When previously you extracted everything I saw only the folders not any file. Just confirm that you have files.

I'm not sure what type of website you call it. It was definately not wordpress, lol.
Errr...i think it may have been html as i just checked some of the file types and it says html, lol. I know this may sound dumb. Please see private message sent, Thanks.
